Default Why is Board crashing after big games?

It happened again last night after the GU-USD game. What is up with that?

I think you partly answered your own question by pointing out when the board seems to always crash. Now, why WOULD a website crash after a big game?

I'm not at all convinced that it's traffic overload. In fact, at some point fairly late in the day but before the game started, there were just 60 members on line and something less than 200 guests. I remember thinking at the time that it was a pretty pitiful showing for game day.

I am pretty certain it is traffic. It is not the number of users logged on, it is the number of database requests being sent by the flurry of posts. Posting spikes immediately after games and just hammers the database. It probably is pegging the memory. Bob mentioned before that the tech who maintains the DB is off at 5:30 or so and doesn't get to the problem until the next morning.

Default Any chance of keeping the geeks working later?

So, as I understand it, the computer geeks go home and leave the board on autopilot. So, predicatbly after a big game that everyone wants to get together about, the Board crashes.

So, win or lose, we can expect it to crash after we play St.Mary's in a couple of weeks?

Chances are good that the board will crash following that game.

Will we have as many board crashes in the 2009-2009 Season as we did last year ?

Or have the MIS guys been working on it ?

    Just asking. . .

Looks like there's a finite number of users who can access the forum. . .

    It is improved, though.

It shouldn't crash but it likely will lag under heavy volume.

There ought to be a way to lock out the "guests" after a game; we had approx 108 members and 500 guests after SCU game; board lagged, data base errors popped up, and more.

It seems to be getting worse as the season goes on.

    I was thinking this too.

SCU was not a major game on the schedule, but the board was unreachable.

I have thought about that, too. Once way to do it would be to require people to actually log on with an account before getting into the forums. That would completely eliminate guests and force anyone who wanted to even look to get an account.

The answer is because the Man controls the boards!
