Women's and Men's Cross Country Programs Named USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams

    Three Individuals named All-Academic Athletes

NEW ORLEANS – For the eighth consecutive season, the Gonzaga women's and men's cross country programs have been recognized as All-Academic teams by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), with three GU runners recognized as All-Academic Athletes.

Overall, there were 533 teams that earned All-Academic distinction, with 289 women's programs and 244 men's programs making the cut. Teams must have a combined 3.0 team grade point average to receive the recognition. The Gonzaga men finished the semester with a 3.43 cumulative GPA, while the women had a 3.6 cumulative GPA.

Cullen McEachern (Business Administration), Wil Smith (Human Physiology) and Kristen Garcia (Political Science) were named USTFCCCA All-Academic as individuals.

In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and have either qualified for the national championship meet or finished top-5 at their respective conference championship. McEachern, Smith and Garcia all earned All-WCC honors at conference championships before following with All-Region performances that got them to NCAA Nationals. At Nationals, Garcia finished 90th -- the best finish by a GU women's runner since Shelby Mills placed 82nd in 2015 – and the GU men took a program-best 26th as a team.
