You need to give good players playing time if you want good players to keep coming to your school. Good players are not going to keep coming to your school if they are not going to play. If you got 10 good players, play them.

This doesn't seem very well evidenced.

GU has a long history of barely playing good or promising recruits for a year or two as they develop, yet attracting better recruits than ever.

Rui played just spot minutes his Freshman year, came off the bench as a sophomore when he was the WCC player of the year.

Zach Norvell took a (not really needed) redshirt year as a freshman, didn't play much the first half of his second year.

Strawther barely played last year.

Joel played just 5 minutes a game during his SECOND year in the program.

etc.

If memory serves, Coach has never gone 5 guards deep with meaningful minutes, nor has he gone meaningful minutes with 4 bigs.

Several recent years with 4 bigs averaging at least 11 minutes:

2017 - Shem/Jw3/Collins/Tillie
2019 - Rui/BC/Tillie/Petrusev
2020 - Tillie/Petrusev/Timme/Watson

Tillie, Melson and Collins all got 14 mins in the Championship game.

IIRC, that 8 man rotation for existed for most of that year.

2019 - 4 Guards : Crandall Kispert Norvell Perk. (Kispert was absolutely a shooting guard not small forward his first couple years)

2021 - 5 guards got at least 13 mins if you call CK still a "guard" or even consider him such for 1/2 his time.

Of course many of those rotations were shortened in "real" games and the conference and NCAA tourneys.

18-19 (Rui and BC season) GU had 9 guys average at least 11 minutes a game - but that includes Tillie who only appeared in half of the games, and Crandall, who missed a few midseason as well.

In the serious games later in the year, Petrusev saw no minutes at all and Crandall and Jones were down to 8-9 a game.

I expect in "real" games especially in March, Few players the starters, then 10-15 for Watson, 10 for Hickman, 7-8 for Sallis.
