Texas' Chris Beard on facing Gonzaga: "We’re going to win that game Saturday night no matter what the scoreboard says because we’re going to learn so much about ourselves. It’s exactly what we need early season to see where we’re at."

I hope so too. Based on what I saw from both teams last night, I’m more hopeful than sure.

    Hype is building

    2. GonzagaSure they lose Jalen Suggs and Corey Kispert, but here comes Chet Holmgren. Just bringing in another top recruit from Minnesota and this dude is a freak. Not to mention they still have Andrew Nembhard and Drew Timme. Pretty good! I'm not someone who freaks out about them playing in the WCC too. If that was such a big deal they wouldn't have made two title games recently.

Yep, going a bit opposite than most people out there. Texas is the best team in the country for me. They have the depth. They have all the transfers. They have star power with Marcus Carr, Andrew Jones, Courtney Ramey, etc. They also upgraded from Shaka to Chris Beard. I've said it before but I don't know if there is a better X's and O's coach in America than him.

I am not expecting a win, so I hope I’m pleasantly surprised. The zags have looked pretty shaky so far, even winning by the margins they have. I really expect this team to be peaking in March more than any zags team ever—- but in November against a team of basically college all star transfers and beard as their coach, I am not too optimistic we will have enough at this point in time. We are playing at home though so we have a chance and I’m sure we will be favored. I think this is a game of two of the three most talented rosters in America

Duke as much as i can’t stand them looked impressive last night as well. UCLA has the horses too. Those are my top 4 early on.

Fun #Texas-#Gonzaga fact: Longhorns coach Chris Beard once tried to recruit Zags asst. & Fort Scott, Kansas, native Stephen Gentry at Fort Scott CC (Beard's first head coaching job).

Beard: "His final two schools were Fort Scott Community College & Gonzaga the way I remember."

But at the end of the day, Gonzaga is a truly one-of-a-kind, special team, and they will be expected to win, and win handsomely. If the Longhorns can stay in the game on Saturday night, despite playing their second game as an overhauled unit, it will bode really well for their chances at a tournament run. But with Texas needing more time to jell, Timme’s savvy and experience, and Holmgren already looking like an elite-level college player, I think Gonzaga wins by double digits. If Texas is humbled by Gonzaga, Longhorn fans should not overreact, the Bulldogs are just that good.

    Score: Gonzaga 79, Texas 66

And you could've gotten a free point extra had one pulled the trigger quick enough.

This is a game GU could win by 16 or lose by 10, it's November, tough tough to find a line that's 50-50

The starting point guards in Saturday's nationally-televised showdown between No. 1 Gonzaga and No. 5 Texas (7:30 p.m., ESPN) go back so far nobody can quite remember how old Andrew Nembhard and Marcus Carr actually were when they joined forces to play for Claude's rec league Vaughan Panthers at the Dufferin Clark Community Centre in Thornhill, Ontario — the same facility where Wiggins famously shattered a glass backboard at the age of 13.

Excellent write up on the game and what Zags need to do to defeat Texas.
