    Default Dish drops Root sports

Just learned that Dish has dropped Root Sports due to not reaching an agreement on a new fee structure. I know that this will affect some Zags games in the WCC if an agreement is not reached. According to the Sea Times, Dish has not renewed other regional sport networks in the past few years, so I’m not confident Root Sports NW will be on Dish next month when the season starts.

Is there anyway to stream Root Sports from any other source?

Help, I need my Zag games!!!

It has been on Directv for a while. It's highly likely that it is on their streaming platform, but I couldn't find it online; you'd probably have to call. I think they just call the add-on the Sports Pack on satellite. Either way, it's not cheap (still cheaper than going to a sports bar to watch every game that's not on ESPN, which I did for a while).

My understanding is that can do a "vacation hold" for several months on Directv. I have thought about doing that and using a cheap streaming service other times of the year to save some money, but have been too lazy to do it.

Zags will continue to be the greatest team no one can watch.

It’s better now than it has been for years. Root is now available for streaming (On DirecTV stream and Fubo). This was never the case until this year.

Platforms like Fubo, YouTube TV, Hulu, etc are the wave of the future and legacy cable and satellite is dying. It is nice to have a decent streaming option. I have not done the research on whether these Root games are available nationwide or just inside the Root “footprint” (WA,AK, OR, ID, MT as I recall).

I for one will hate DISH losing Root Sports…living in SC I have not missed any games for 14 years… not familiar with streaming but if Root and DISH can’t compromise then might have to go back to Direct TV

I should add for clarity for those who are unaware: DifecTV stream is NOT legacy DirecTV. You don’t need an old school DirecTV satellite account to do it. It is a streaming only package and it’s competitively priced with YouTube TV Hulu live tv etc.

I switched from YouTube TV about six months ago. No yearly contracts and you can cancel or switch anytime.

For now the only notable missing sports channels are PAC 12 network and NFL network.

Well I assume it’s because they have NFL Sunday ticket and try to sell that separately. Who knows.

And yet I never miss a KHQ / ROOT game, despite not having ROOT Sports Northwest on my cable system (because it is an out of market channel for me). I wonder why that is?

Dish Network now carries only one RSN (regional sports network) and that is NESN in the New England area. My sources tell me that once NESN's carriage agreement is up, Dish will say adios.

Sunday Ticket is a gouge priced anachronism. Red Zone is the sheet. No commercials, 6 hours.

My reading of the comments in this thread is that fans outside the Pacific Northwest will have no coverage of Zag games NOT on ESPN. Not on Dish. Not on Directv. RootNW is owned by the Seattle Mariners, which will decide whether National Zag fans will be able to view Zag games or not.

Why not on directv? I’ve never missed a game with directv adding the sport package.

Correct. However, do not see any incentive for Mariners to continue coverage without numerous requests from Zag fans who reside outside the PNW.

Never understood the whole blackout thing. Eyeballs in any part of the country translate into ad dollars. Yes, most advertisers are casinos, used car lots and delis, but a wider net would encourage more national ones.

A large number of those games, especially conference games, have been on the WCC.TV vis the Stadium network. Not always top quality but available at least.

This guarantees I’m dropping Dish now.

This is not true on legacy DirecTV. Maybe on some legacy cable providers as well. I don’t know. All I know is that the streaming version of DirecTV (called “DirecTV stream”, formerly called AT&T TV) offers Root in its footprint. I am not aware one way or another if they offer it outside the footprint but I assume not, since all Mariners, Blazers and Kraken games would be blacked out and that’s a huge share of their programming now.

If in fact you can’t see zags games that are only on KHQ/Root, you likely aren’t missing much. Typically this has been the home of the zags scrimmages against the hapless (aka, Tarleton State, Dixie State, Merrimack, Bellarmine etc on this year’s docket). And as SorenTodd hints, but doesn’t state outright, you can usually find a bootleg stream of these epic contests on the college hoops subreddit (of course the game may be routed to you through Russia or the Ukraine and your system may well crash with malware down the line, but a Zag’s gotta do what a Zag’s gotta do right?

I'm in the same boat...can't see keeping DISH; however, not confident in streaming so DirecTV might be my only option here in South Carolina...other than moving to Spokane which I have considered but only if the wife is willing to shovel snow...lol

Now that you mention it, maybe a blackout versus that lineup of dreck is a mitzvah. End of the day, we’re only talking about a 12 game regular season anyway.

I have the Direct TV streaming and have had it for a couple of years. Great they added Root so we could watch the Zags and M's last year without using a VPN. It does however track where you're streaming from, so if you're out of the area you won't get Root, but whatever RSN is for the area you're at. Tried to watch some of the M's on my phone when at DFW airport and I couldn't get it. I save a little bit over having to go with Comcast (though they are the only internet game in town, so I have to still use them), but nice to be somewhat free from Comcast.

Trying to get smart quickly before the season starts...

So just spoke with FOBO and they carry Root Sports and their package is available in SC but not sure I understand the streaming part from DirecTV...If I understand your info in your post, because I live in SC I would not be able to access Root on DirecTV and it's streaming option?

I'm not sure why people don't just have xfinity. It used to suck, but I have really liked it the last 4 or 5 years. Now they have integrated most of the streaming into the system so I can pull up netflix or hulu or hbomax, etc. with my xfinity remote.
