Default Candid Coaches: Who will be the best player in college basketball this season?

    Zags 1st and 3rd

What's interesting is that Timme's teammate, Chet Holmgren, finished tied for third in votes-received, meaning one Gonzaga player or another accounted for 57% of the answers. In all the years we've been conducting this series, no school has ever had two players receive this high of a percentage of the votes to this question. That speaks to the firepower Gonzaga coach Mark Few will have at his disposal this season. It's among the reasons the Zags are No. 1 in the CBS Sports Top 25 And 1.

If Drew can guard and shoot over Chet in practice …less likely

A good question. He was not close to being a first round pick last year. Hopefully NIL opportunities will make staying in college a better option than it has ever been for a guy like him. Can’t imagine he’d leave early to play overseas like Nigel ended up doing. Hopefully college is a better option than the G league now for a 22 year old. We’ve hashed out in other threads what he needs to do to be in the first round discussion. If he comes back with improvements in those areas then that’s great and we’ll be a better team because of it. Can’t wait to watch him and Chet.

Plus, there's something about Tims personality that says he'd get a kick out of mentoring three young bigs -- Gregg, Perry and now Huff.

time will tell how much Timme will develop into what the NBA needs and seeks out. I am betting he will. I am sure he is also aware of how many top, and I mean TOP college centers (Noah Dickerson, J.P. Batista, Karno, Robert Sacre, etc) did not have what the NBA needs and seeks out in a starter, or even on the roster.

Professional basketball is a international game.....there are more choices than College or the NBA......even the G league is becoming a viable alternative ....the NIL...... or whatever it is...... will not have the long term financial potential of a career as a professional.
