    Default 2023 - Jared McCain

6'2" shooting guard from Corona, CA. He's currently unranked on 247 Sports, but I think that will change soon. He's #46 on Nothing But Net's website and #57 on ESPN.

Gonzaga? Your thoughts on their program and how do you feel about their guards

“The same thing, they are very high on my abilities and believe it will be able to work at the next level. Jalen and Corey are such elite guards. Corey’s ability to shoot the ball is amazing to watch and Jalen’s IQ and ability to affect the game in multiple ways is wild to watch.”

While Boswell is the best point guard prospect in the 2023 class, his travel teammate, Jared McCain, may be the best guard on the Team Why Not (Calif.) 16s team. The 6-foot-3 combo guard averaged 20.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists on 50.5-percent shooting from the field and 40.9-percent shooting from three.

Texas A&M, Stanford, Houston, Washington, Kansas, Texas Tech, Louisville and USC are the Power Five programs who have offered. Currently unranked, expect McCain to join Boswell with a high ranking in the upcoming 2023 Rivals150 update.

Top-30 junior Jared McCain has visits to LMU and Louisville approaching.

    He talked with
    @Stockrisers
as we talked LMU’s pursuit, Louisville’s pitch, and oh, heavy interest [no offer] from Gonzaga.

Plus, his thoughts on the NIL & Pro Routes

How about your interest from Gonzaga, what have they been saying?

“Gonzaga is very high on how they are a family environment which I love. The coach sends me film on how I can benefit from there offense and how it will fit me and my game. So it’s cool to see they are seeing me in there system.”

That will get Coach Few's attention.

Seems like a great add if he commits. Plus LA product which is good to keep the recruiting pipeline in Cali strong.

Top #25 recruit in the 2023 class. Gonzaga is currently recruiting two of his AAU teammates Kylan Boswell and Dusty Stromer. Gonzaga is hoping to have all three on campus for the Texas game.

PI: What are you looking for in your school of choice?

JM: Just that family atmosphere where they’ll take care of me. I don’t want them to promise me a starting spot, I want to be able to work for that. So just being able to work for everything I got and the family atmosphere to take care of me even when times are tough and I’m having bad games. Just to take care of me in that aspect as well. Where I feel at home.

I feel like I read somewhere a while back that Few & co don't pressure recruits to commit and encourage them to look everywhere before making an informed decision? Maybe I am just imagining this, but it could explain why this kid hasn't already signed on the dotted line.

We are involved with a lot of guards but you can tell McCain is a big time priority. Probably only behind Mookie Cook. Pretty optimistic there is a lot of mutual interest here. Stromer is the other one who really seems to favor the Zags. Nice to see after some of the 2022 kids didn't seem to be as good of a fit as some of these 2023 guys we're after.

The '23 team is going to have a really young backcourt. Odds are that Harris is the only upperclassman around, with Sallis & Hickman almost certainly departing after their sophomore seasons (if not sooner). I'm sure there will be a transfer or two sprinkled in, but it definitely seems like there should have been more of an effort to get a solid guard for the '22 class.

Hopefully a transfer guard with experience a Nigel Goss esque would be nice to help shore up the young guards in the upcoming years.

Taking care of business on the court will go a long way. Time to beat Duke in Vegas, then go win a title.
