Beard cutting checks right and left, TX might move past good guys for top spot.

Here is who Texas added via transfer market/portal this off-season:

Marcus Carr, 6'4", Minnesota (20 ppg, 5 apg)

Tre Mitchell, 6'9", UMass (19 ppg, 7 rpg)

Timmy Allen, 6'6", Utah (17 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 4 apg)

Dylan Disu, 6'9", Vandy (15 ppg, 9.5 rpg)

Christian Bishop, 6'7", Creighton (12 ppg, 6.5 rpg)

Devin Askew, 6'3", Kentucky freshman, 5* Top 20 recruit (7 ppg, 3 apg)

That equals to = 89 ppg!! From just their transfers, that is insane.

3 of those 6 transfers averaged over 15+ ppg in Power-5 conferences!

And the remaining 3 were either their respective Conference POY, the teams leading scorer, or a former 5* recruit.

It's never been done before. Not like this. Coach Beard going wild down in Austin. I'd say they appear to be the most talented team -- on paper. We'll see if/how it all comes together.

They already had two terrific guards returning who were 15 ppg scorers last yr as well.

Darn near a college bball All Star team. Zags face them beginning of November. Longhorns my new pre-season #1 squad.

Hmmm...got a feeling they're going to take some lumps in the OOC; just too many new faces and not enough time to build team chemistry. Once conference play rolls around and the tourney they'll be dangerous.

    .

The thing to remember though is that only five can play at a time, and no matter what, they can only score so many points. Gonzaga has a fantastic history of putting up points EVERY YEAR. So Im not worried about points. To me the questions are: who can play D, who can rebound and who can pass? You must have some excellent passers in order for players to score, and Gonzaga has a great point guard in Nembhard. I'm not worried.

    Go Zags!

That and what are their shooting percentages. How many points doesn't matter if you took half of the teams shots and shot 35%.
    I'm laughing. Why aren't you?

He's going to need to put a chemist on staff.

I can't imagine trying to make all of those new players work. Poor Kamaka Hepa might become the NCAA's tallest ball boy.

It’s Austin, for one, and it’s Beard who unless he’s a magician puts together rosters in the state pretty easily. If the burnt orange Nikes fit. Call it a healthy skepticism.

I didn't know that... Thanks for the update. It wouldn't be a horrible place to play, as long as surfing didn't get in the way too much.

LOL, the resources UT has is unfathomable. HOWEVER, the distractions, expectations, and notoriety that come with UT sports are unfathomable as well. Compound that with competing for NIL cash, it could turn badly for them.

The hoopsters are going to find out in rapid fashion they're the red headed stepchildren when compared to the football team.

JP, their road trips are just east of Hell. When I was in El Paso, U-Hawaii was in the WAC. Their road trips were usually two, if not three weeks in duration. This was in the days before the Internet and laptops. My "laptop" computer back then was a 30 pound Compaq. With the exception of San Diego State, the other conference schools were in lush paradises such as Fort Collins, CO, and Laramie Wyoming. UTEP would fly into Denver IIRC, and then bus to their games.

Coaches weren't enthralled with the trip to Hawaii, either. 5-6 hour plane trips, followed by the distractions of being in Hawaii, and trying to get an hour or two at the beach while preparing for the games. I don't recall Coach Haskins using the Hawaii trip as an incentive in recruiting.

NIL could have a lot to do with this.

I know some big programs are paying football players 500-1000 per month to endorse even small products. I imagine Texas has boosters willing to pay basketball players more. Would be legal now and an easy sell for beard to tell a prospect “this (booster) can give you 2k a month to promote x brand”

Good point. We bought a 2018 Murano last week, the dealerships we visited were complaining about low inventory, and the decline of new car production.

O/T, but my daughter sent me an article with the title, "No cars for sale two years from now." Seems far fetched, but who knows?
