    Default Gentry It Is

    According to Borzello -

Gonzaga is hiring Stephen Gentry as an assistant coach, source told ESPN. Gentry spent the last two seasons at Illinois, where he helped engineer a top-10 offense and 1-seed last season. Former walk-on at Gonzaga from 2002-06.

With the Kentucky hires, Illinois' staff is pillaged.

    - not sure how accomplished gentry is with recruiting?
    - his strength seems to be x's and o's, especially good with the offensive schemes.
    - the illinios coach handed over the offense to gentry to run. i'd be surprised to see coach few do anything similar to that.
    - further what ain't broke, don't need fix'in. this team should lead the nation is scoring for a 4th year in a row.

    - good hire, glad gentry is again part of the team.

I seem to recall a lot of discussion around Gentry's analytical approach & usage of player metrics; I would bet that can apply on defense as well.

Wasn't Tommy a big part in the offensive scheme? Sounds like Gentry is a good replacement in that area.

FWIW, Stephen ran the hoops camp when we were up there during the summer of 2017. From what I saw, he did a great job. "What it means to be a Zag" was demonstrated by the players that were on campus, who volunteered as assistant coaches.
