Welcome aboard, Chet Holmgren! Your talent is unquestioned but talent alone is not what makes you such a stud hooper, it’s your competitive spirit and intensity you play with. Can’t wait to watch you and the 2021-22 Zags get after it.
He can move 15 ft to the left or right about as fast as my eyes can see it, his name could just as well be Hunter Hustle -ZagsGoZags 11/17/21

    Welcome Chet.

O.K. everyone. Your next task is to pass all of those Dick's "Bagful of Cheeseburger's" coupons you've been sitting on up front.

And don't worry about NCAA infractions for impermissible benefits;l Pacific knows how to take a hit.

    (with apologies to zf24)

Boy the BCS snobs are all over Twitter. Now the big deal is that Gonzaga can't win the national title game (Few can't win the big one - but it's okay if Duke loses to Mercer), that kids are gutless to play for a WCC school because they don't wish to be challenged, and that Gonzaga is now going to fall to pieces because the "real" head coach went to Arizona. Of course there's the whole Chet is overrated thing. Just because he is skinny. Like that won't change one day. The key is that the kid is tough, super athletic and has a 7 ft. 4 wingspan. The kid runs a fast break like a PG except he's 7 feet tall.

It's really, really hard to win 6 games in a row. Some people just can't get past that.

Best thing you can do for your long term sanity is ignore what the folks who are jealous are saying as it does not matter.

Every player we get their ranking goes up Gregg #55, Perry #52, Sallis #6, Holmgren #1. How is that going to continue after getting Chet. What a great time to be a Zag Fan.

I am absolutely salivating over the idea of watching a full season played with next year's team. It needs to be November now!

LeBron will commit and challenge the NCAA ruling on amateurism. He has just been getting paid and that is now allowed.
    I'm laughing. Why aren't you?

Over on the Kentucky board some guy is saying that Gonzaga had to pay a lot to get Suggs and Chet. He said that their aau coach was behind it. He doesn't have a clue that Suggs' dad was their aau coach, comparing him to Myron Piggie. If you don't know who he is he is the aau coach that was collecting money to send his players to certain school, and was keeping most of the money himself. He was the one that paid Corey Maggette $3500 to go to duke, of course nothing was done to them even though it came out in court. Pigge was sent to prision over this. I don't know how he was, it is against the ncaa rules to pay players, it is not against the law, but that didn't help Pigge.

"they didn't want him anyway".............lolol no worries. Movement for the power 5's to deep six the NCAA and go on their own with the "best programs". Basketball is changing...ruined by so much money!

They say the WCC doesn't prepare GU for the NCAA tourney, but then the WCC gives GU a huge NCAA tourney break. So many of these message boards and sites require passwords, but if these people would just read these articles:

    https://www.sportingnews.com/us/ncaa...t1wbh0v3hduqfh

    https://www.sportingnews.com/ca/ncaa...h1pl78crzm8f72

Of course it wouldn't change their minds, but at least they would be presented with the facts.

This Michigan thread is particularly bad:

    https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/chet-holmgren-gonzaga

One site referred to the WCC as a low major league. The WCC would've sent 3 teams to the dance last season. A low major league, if you want to call it that, is the MEAC and the SWAC.

My big knock on him is that he is more of a combo guard than a true point guard. [/sarcasm]

There are some people in that Michigan thread that stick up for Spokane and the Zags. It's a fairly long thread will probably get longer.

Anyway, welcome to the Gonzaga family Chet. This program has a good history of developing big guys of all types and making them into really good pros.

I found the remarks regarding needing puddle jumpers flying in and out of Spokane humorous . Pre-Covid, American had 5 daily flights from DFW to Spokane.

A lot of ignorant and badly informed posts in that Michigan thread.

Also, a lot of jealousy lurking right below the surface.

Depending on which service you ask, we've added our best recruit ever three times in the last ~15 months. Suggs, Salis, Holmgren. Wow! Furthermore we were in on 5 of the top 10 (Banchero, Watson, and Houstan). Hard to believe.

There's no template for how to use a player like Chet, because he's such a unique talent. I'm very much looking forward to watching what the Zags do!

Not to mention the Zags don't exactly fly commercial!

Personally, I'd love to find a league that delivers more competition, the Big East is the most reasonable, which is a huge stretch.

Perhaps if Michigan had played SMC, they'd have been more prepared for UCLA's walk it up the court game plan
