Couple of upsets by unranked teams already today. Penn St. over Ohio St. and Marquette over DePaul. Might be adios to the rankings for the Blue Demons, they are #24 currently.

I was watching a little bit of Big East ball this weekend and the Announcers were talking about as many as 4-5 teams from the Big East making the tournament. I guess in theory that could happen as after UConn, Marquette (14-3, 17-4), Depaul (10-4, 13-6), Villanova (9-4, 14-4), & Seton Hall (9-5, 11-6) could join UConn in the tournament at least by their records. I have not checked their NET rankings yet. Charlie Creme, in his latest bracketology has UConn, Marquette and Depaul in the tournament with Villanova shown in the 2nd four out.

The two Top-25 teams that did win today had to have big, really big 4th quarters to pull out the victory. #13 South Florida had to outscore 0.500 Temple 21-7 in the 4th to pull off a 56-47 victory. #25 Rutgers dominated Michigan State 24-7 in the 4th to gather a 63-53 victory.

Time is running out to make your final statements to the tournament committee. The tournament committee rarely makes too many changes based on tournament outcomes, so this week and for some next week is it.

The upsets in the Top-25 continue today.

#18 West Virginia (2nd in the Big-12) had a Gonzaga type offensive day (14 pts in the 2nd quarter and 12 pts in the 3rd quarter) and could not dig themselves out of the hole they created. The Mountaineers fall to unranked Iowa State (5th in the Big-12) 85-68.

    Come'on Zags.

Just win Baby and let's move on up.

Wcc games: San Diego on Covid break; Cancels season.

LMU up 10 at the half, has a disastrous 3rd qtr, scoring just 4 points; but made a game of it, losing 73-63 to Portland. Looks like they basically, used 7 players.

At the half; Santa Carla is taking it to BYU, up 38-24.

Unranked Iowa is hammering #12 Michigan, Caitlin Clark going off again. She seems to have gotten her 2nd wind and has been on a tear lately.

#16 Arkansas dodged a bullet against 0-13 in conference Auburn, trailed most of the game but won by 5.

#20 Tennessee barely beat unranked Missouri, #3 Texas A&M survived a big 4th quarter rally by unranked Alabama, #19 Kentucky edged #17 Georgia. Another wacky night in the SEC.

I think that is the biggest difference between BYU and the Lady Zags. Depending on who is doing the comparison, the starting 5-6 players of BYU and Gonzaga Wbb are not too different from one another. If I am being honest, I think the Zags may have the advantage of 3-2 with a push or two depending on who is being compared to who. The biggest difference that Gonzaga has is that they can go 10+ deep (even if CLF does want to use this advantage) without a huge falling off and BYU cannot go more than 6-7 deep without a major falloff.

The biggest difference between the teams in the last several years is that the Zags, no matter how they do against BYU, simply do not lose very many games to teams they should beat. BYU always has a stumble or three during the year. Thus why they break even with the Zags or even beat the Zags in the head to head series, they don't win the conference championship because they stumble against teams not named Gonzaga. This year both USD and USF got BYU's number which effectively took them out of the championship hunt, despite the split with Gonzaga.

I will continue to point out that BYU lost to the 11th place Pac 12 team by nearly 30 this year. No way that would've happened to the Zags.

Portland looked dead in the water against Pepperdine, but came storming back in Q4, forced OT and won. Pacific handled SMC. Higgins is finishing her career off strong (assuming she doesn't come back for another year, who knows what all of this year's Seniors are gonna do).

Thanks for the BYU score update RenoZag. Good for USF and not so good for the Cougars which should make them good and mad for the WCC tournament.

Let's get caught up with the Top-25 Wbb teams since Wednesday:

    Thursday
    - #1 UConn destroyed unranked Creighton (who just beat #24 Depaul) 81-49.
    - #2 NC State manhandled a bad Pittsburgh team 83-53
    - #3 Texas A&M had a tight one with a very good, but unranked Alabama team 73-67.
    - #5 South Carolina had little trouble with a mediocre Old Miss team 68-43.
    - #8 Maryland cruised against a poor Purdue team 88-59.
    - #12 Michigan had nothing for an unranked but very good Iowa (w/super freshman Caitlan Clark) 89-67.
    - #16 Arkansas had a very tough game against a bad, really bad Auburn (5-17, 0-14) team 74-69.
    - #17 Georgia could not play themselves out of a 10 point hole at half and lost to #19 Kentucky 62-58.
    - #20 Tennessee had a much tougher time than expected with a less than 0.500 Missouri team 78-73.

    FRIDAY
    - #10 UCLA rolled over unranked USC 93-51.
    - #22 South Dakota State had little trouble with 0.500 UM Kansas City 73-53

    SATURDAY
    - #1 UConn ran over a bad Butler team 97-68.
    - #7 Baylor had no problem with Kansas State 85-49
    - #11 Indiana gave #15 Ohio State their 6th loss of the season 87-75.
    - #13 South Florida left their offense in Florida getting hammered by unranked Houston 67-49.
    - #18 West Virginia had a tougher time than expected against a mediocre Kansas team 72-68.
    - #22 South Dakota State had a much tougher game today against yesterdays victim UM Kansas City 72-66.
    - #24 Depaul found their offense today, taking down Providence 75-49.

This was USC's third straight shellacking, all at home. 2 were ranked teams, 1 wasn't. They were possibly on the bubble before this stretch. Hard to think this team hasn't completely given up on the season, just not competing. They still had something to play for. Coach Trakh is just as mediocre in his 2nd stint at USC as he was in his first. It's not like the Trojans don't have talent, but something clearly isn't right.

I will be interested to see what the pollsters do with Ohio State.

With today's loss (to a very good Indiana team), this is OSU's 3rd loss in a row, 6th loss overall with 3 of the losses to unranked teams; Nebraska, Penn State and horrible Wisconsin.

You would think that at some point and time, if you keep losing to unranked teams your place in the poll has to reflect that (unless your in the SEC).

A bunch of games on TV between ESPN/ESPN2, FS1 and Pac 12 Network. Some not very compelling but quite a few that should be good games. Regular season finale for many teams.

Watched the 2nd half of this game. Hard to believe the NCAA had Kentucky listed in the Top-16 in their first reveal, based on how they looked today.

The big for Ole Miss (6'5") is very athletic and would be a handful for anybody.

#3 Texas A&M and #5 South Carolina put in a good first half with A&M leading at half 35-34. A&M came out in the second half on a tear and is now leading USC 42-34.

A&M was up big, nearly coughed it up. Should hold on, and claim the SEC Title. Hopefully will knock South Carolina out of a #1 seed. That would be 4 losses for the Gamecocks. A&M would improve to 22-1.

Huskies led Cougs 35-27 at the half, WSU outscored them 34-17 in the 2nd half. Please, please, please fire Wynn already. How many years of absolutely stinking will it take? She signed a 6 year contract and this is only year 4, but she is absolutely tanking the program. In 4 years she's won fewer conference games than they did during Plum's Sr. year alone, and it's not even close (11 vs. 15).

Stanford was up as much as 16 against Cal, then went to sleep and let them creep back within 6 at the half. That must have irritated them, because they destroyed the Bears 41-8 in the 2nd half. And most of that was with several bench players in the game.

OSU up 38-35 at the half. Prince has been fairly underwhelming this year but she's going nuts today, 18 points on 8-11 shooting. Already a career high.
