No games feature two Top-25 teams today.

Most Top-25 teams took care of business relatively easily winning by double digits. Missouri State needed some late game heroics to steal a victory from the jaws of defeat against Illinois State who was 6-5 in conference coming into the game 73-72.

There was one upset this afternoon, when 8-9, (5-7) Oklahoma outscored #19 West Virginia 15-5 in the 4th quarter and then held on for a 72-71 victory in Morgantown.

One more Top-25 game tonight as #5 Stanford just started off against Oregon State in Corvallis.

As conferences debate tournament settings, it's all but guaranteed the WCC Tourney will look different in 2021
    By Sean Walker, KSL.com | Posted - Feb. 12, 2021 at 11:26 a.m.

PROVO — When Mark Few speaks, the West Coast Conference listens.

So when the legendary Gonzaga coach of the past 21 years started speaking up about the possibility of modifying — or even canceling altogether — the league's annual postseason men's basketball tournament, you can be sure the WCC listened.

Because it's not a matter of if something could go wrong by the conference's 10 teams getting together in Las Vegas, but what will the league do when it does?

So Few began banging the drum several weeks ago, even openly and with the media, about the annual tournament. Maybe, he hypothesized, the best thing they could do in a year when the COVID-19 pandemic that canceled the NCAA Tournament a year ago is not get together as a conference, to reduce the spread of any potential virus issues.

Bringing each team's roster, plus coaches and traveling personnel, administrators, fans, media and others to one location isn't the best idea as the pandemic continues to surge across the country, and with full vaccination efforts not available until mid-summer in most states.

"I think there's probably a way to do it, and it probably isn't gathering 10 teams together in Vegas," Few said on ESPN's SportsCenter. "Whether it's taking the top three up to Spokane and playing off up there, or something along those lines. Everybody's putting some good thought into it, and I think we'll come to a good conclusion when it's time."

Stanford started to pull away in Q3, Beavs didn't even bother to show up for Q4. Got outscored 23-6 in the final frame and lost 83-58.

#7 Baylor and Texas are playing on ESPN and are putting on quite the show on how not to play basketball.

#7 Baylor is dominating the Longhorns 41-23 after 3 quarters. Yup, mighty Texas has scored all of 23 points in 3 quarters and the #7 team in the nation has an outstanding 41 points after 3. Baylor has 3 field goals and 10 turnovers in the 2nd half so far. Yes sir, a fine demonstration of women's basketball.

The projected #1 in the WNBA draft, Charlie Collier of Texas, is 1-3 for 2 points and 4 rebounds, 1 block and 3 turnovers through 3 quarters.

Oregon outplayed Stanford for most of the 2nd half, was up by as much as 4 (after trailing the entire 1st half), but Stanford pulled it out 63-61. Freshman Cameron Brink outplayed all of Oregon's huge front court.

edit--Lexie Hull didn't shoot very well but made some big plays and her usual stellar defense; Lacie was almost a goat w/ a pair of missed FTs in the last 30 seconds or so.

Indiana knocked off Michigan today, big game in the Big 10. Tennessee is about to take out #2 South Carolina. Had to come back from down 12 after a disastrous 2nd quarter. 2nd half was all Vols.

The Washington St. feel good story has kinda run aground. They've lost 9 of their last 11 games. Dropped a home game to Colorado today. The middle of the Pac 12 is absolutely cannibalizing itself. There's the top 4, then a big 'ol jumbled mess, and then Utah, Washington and Cal at the bottom (but the Bears almost beat Arizona today--it was a lot closer than that 9 point final margin suggests).

Oregon is getting throttled by UCLA, 46-22 at the half. I don't understand how the Ducks are ranked #13. They don't seem to fall in the polls after they lose, they must be an SEC team. Really don't have any quality wins this year (beat Washington St. twice but that is getting devalued, Cougs have dropped below .500 overall).

Coach Graves has done a great job at Oregon, but he's really falling short this year. Team is big, talented, deep. He's failed to develop a rotation or define roles for any of his players. They are just flailing. Complete lack of leadership from any of the veteran players. I guess anybody left over from last year was just too used to riding the coattails of Ionescu, Hebard and Sabally.

    Thanks

Not serious but another suspected “mild” concussion

She’s done for the season we think.

She quietly passed 1,000 points scored in an LMU jersey, a couple of games ago.

Looking forward to next season! As her Senior year season seems to have concluded.

My wife and I are planning to take a trip to Vegas in March for the WCC tourney. Not sure if they’re admitting any fans to attend? But we thought we’d take the trip with the baby nonetheless. It’ll be a nice getaway for us.

Best wishes to the Zags. One of my favorite players Jill Townsend certainly redeemed herself with her performance against San Diego. We made a fantastic comeback yesterday against Pacific, I don’t know what team was playing the first half? Unfortunately it’s extremely difficult to dig yourself out of a 24 point deficit at half time.

Congrats on your daughters milestone. Sorry to hear about the injury, but glad its nothing serious.

Yes LMU seems to be getting a reputation of having huge quarter in 2nd half, i.e. 32 points in 3rd quarter yesterday. LMU certainly gave Pacific a run for their money in the 2nd half yesterday. Was remembering that 28 point 4th quarter against BYU .

Hoping LMU does not catch us sleeping next week like our first game of the year against them.

Top 10 teams continuing to look shaky. Dana Evans had an off game and Louisville went down against Florida St. Oregon St. got a big win at UCLA. Talia von Oelhoffen from Tri Cities has been looking pretty darn good for them since graduating high school early and joining the team in January.

Downtrodden Cal got their first win of the season! Now 1-14. Arizona St. was their victim.

Anybody notice that Cal Baptist is 20-0? This is their final year transitioning up to D1 so they are not eligible for post season play (does anybody understand that rule?), damn shame.

    CG3Dad,

Glad to hear it is nothing serious with Chelsey. Zag fans will keep her in our prayers.

The rollercoaster of the 2021 Wbb season continued today.

    - #2 South Carolina came back from their upset loss to Tennessee by hammering #17 Kentucky 76-55. Kentucky now has 6 losses, 4 of the losses by double digits. Are they still in the Top-16?
    - Unranked Florida State gave #3 Louisville their second loss of the season 68-59.
    - #5 Texas A&M continues with their upward movement by beating unranked Mississippi 66-55.
    - #7 Baylor had some trouble with under 0.500 Oklahoma being tied at half. Second half Baylor pulled away to win 77-66.
    - Unranked Oregon State continues their upward march (maybe to the NCAA tournament??) by upsetting #8 UCLA 71-64.
    - #11 Michigan had a tough 1st half with #15 Ohio State. UM had a big 3rd quarter outscoring OSU 24-11 to ultimately prevail 75-66.
    - #13 Oregon got the train back on the track, at least for today, by hammering USC 72-48.
    - #18 Arkansas built a big lead in the first half against unranked LSU and played the tigers even in the 2nd half to win 74-64.
    - In perhaps the best game of the day, #22 Georgia held on against #21 Tennessee to prevail 57-55. Tennessee followed up their big win against South Carolina with their 6th loss of the year.

Both Kentucky and Tennessee were in the NCAAs Top 16 reveal last Monday and both lost this week to now have 6 losses each. Do both of these teams stay in the Top 16 in the nation? Next reveal will be a week from Monday.

One game in the WCC today.

Pacific, despite having 27 turnovers held on to beat San Diego 67-65.

With a victory today USD could have locked up the #3 seed for the WCC tournament. With a couple of games to go Santa Clara and San Francisco are within 2 games of USD in the loss column and only one game behind in the aggregate ratings.

Big game in the Pac-12 tonight as #4 Stanford plays #9 Arizona on ESPN2 at 6:00 PM.

Not pretty but Stanford up 62-48 w/ a few seconds left. If you can believe it they just clinched their first Pac 12 regular season title since 2014.

That is amazing, so I had to look it up.

Stanford either won or shared every Pac-12 Wbb conference championship from 2000-2014 and won the conference tournament 10 times in the same time span. Since 2014, Oregon State won the championship 3 years in a row (shared with Arizona State in 2015-2016) followed by Oregon win the conference championship the last 3 years, however, Stanford did with the conference championship 3 years during this 6 year life span.

Stanford has had a Top-4 seed in the Pac-12 conference tournament every year since the conference tournament debuted in 20002.

Yep, a typical rough and tumble Torrero game. S.D. took 69 shots; Pacific 48; Pacific had the better %'s; Higgins 9-10 from the field; 11-12 from the line; 12 boards, 4 steals all lay-ups; and assist (I counted 2 but I'm not the official scorer); Val was determined not to leave anything on the bench; McDavid played better than usual (for this year... she looks 'sickly' ??) was 9-14; 7 boards but only 1-4 from the line. Randhawa hit 2 of three downtown shots; in the third quarter which were critical at that juncture. UOP was plus one on the RB's; but -6 on the TO's... but San Diego did have 21 TO's! Our Frosh 3 Point shooter, took one shot, and made it; We only took 8 deep shots, which I think was the right strategy under the circumstances. S.D. lost it at the line, were only 9 of 18. Pacific was 18 of 23; Pace, only made 5 of 13 shots from the floor and was a paltry 3-7 on her FT's.

I learned that all 4 of our Seniors will graduate and most likely will not return! Higgins will no doubt, try to carry this team as far as possible. I great person and fine Athlete, much like JT. IMO

edit: Final score makes it seem that it was nip and tuck. Pacific led 66-60 with around 16 seconds left... a sub for Torrero's had the ball way out beyond NBA 3 distance and their Coach must have yelled SHOOT, cause she jerked up her only 3 shot of the game... wide of the margin, but high enough and long enough for her prayer to be answered... yep a Bank Shot, that she probably could shoot another 25 times without even coming close! Tillman then sank one of her 2 charity tosses and San Diego got a meaningless bucket underneath... so close to the buzzer, they had to review it!

Only one game in the Top-25 today but it was a doozy.

#8 Maryland vs Iowa (with player of the year candidate Caitlin Clark).

Iowa scores 93 points on 55.6% shooting overall and 51.5% shooting from 3 (17-33). In your worst quarter you score 19 points. Your player of the year candidate (Caitlin Clark-Freshman) scores 34 points shooting 11-20 overall and 9-16 from 3 to go with her 3 rebounds, 7 assists and 1 steal (and her freshman like 6 t/o).

And yet Iowa got hammered 111-93 by the Terps who shot 61.2% (41-67) overall and 68.2% (15-22) from long range. 4 Terps scored in double digits, 3 of them scored 24 or more points.

Yep 32 made 3s in one game and the worse shooting team shot 51.5% from long range.

That one has got to hurt if you are Iowa.
