Anyone nitpicking after this Thanksgiving treat of a game giving Few win #600 vs very very good Kansas team needs to chill. Zags looked amazing. I’m most impressed w Suggs; not just his skill, athleticism and stats...dude plays like a senior. Calm cool fiery competitor.

Suggs just surpassed Kispert with most dramatic first points of any Zag’s college career. I recall vividly Kispert’s offensive rebound dunk vs some early season opponent in November 2017. Suggs threw down an alley-oop dunk on top of a Jayhawk for his first college points. Awesome

Watson may be superstar talent but has a gritty, blue collar glue guy mentality. That’s just fine for this squad. He will be fine.

Kispert played like the alpha stud he is.

Totally agreed. This team looks amazing and will only get better. Excited to see ballo’s development this year bc if he could learn to move and establish a low post seal.....monstrous. We have the ability to play small ball with our length across the board but would be nice to have a back up big for minutes when needed. Those will come.

Suggs more aggressive than I expected. He has the speed of Wooly and can finish at the rim. I think Anton will carve out his role. Dick Enberg is looking down thinking "Oh My"

First game. Against a top-10 team that was neck-and-neck with us for #1 last year. Took the lead early and held it. High percentage scoring. Balanced scoring. Clear margin on the boards, esp. defensive boards. Good FT percentage. Hung 102 pts. on a team/program that almost never gives up that much. Just enormously satisfying. And great to see that our #1 ranking is legit.

I like that our guys showed confidence without being cocky. A fine line.

Too early to start raising questions. Watson needs time to get back in the flow and gain confidence regarding his shoulder. He's a very fluid player with quick hands. Good length and has a knack for rebounding. Ballo needs more experience but has the size and tools to be a great rim-protector. Let's given him to mid-season to see whether he can be a spot sub to give Timme a break here and there.

Given the pressure and quality of opponent for this opener, I have no complaints and no worries. The scary thing is this team is only going to get better.

Compare college to college.

Much of Stockton's glory is from his NBA career, not to say he wasn't a great Zag too, but coming out of Gonzaga, nobody saw what he became.

I do think that, based on one game, Suggs will end up better than NWG for their one season.

I can't stop saying it to myself, we just hung 102 points on KANSAS in regulation! That's something that no one has done in 30 years. Not to mention that it's the first game of the year with sooooo many new faces. It's only one game, but color me impressed.

I think Ballo will be fine. Big Shem wasn't so silky smooth early in his first year. Bigs like that need a little seasoning, and more generally I'm excited to see the player development on this squad -- so much talent to work with.

Ayayi had a sneaky good game. I didn't notice him much but there he was at the end with 10pts and 9 rebounds. Huge to have someone like him and his ability to rebound will make playing four guards much easier.

Just an outstanding team playing a very tough Kansas team... we need another big. I am starry eyed over this team! It’ll be interesting to see how they do against the 3 more ranked teams. We sure could use another big though.

Abe, couldn't agree more regarding Suggs. As eye-popping as his drives and dunks were, his assists were other-worldly as well. Droppin' dimes, especially late in the game when he didn't need to do the scoring. He has that pro-type body already. The thing I couldn't get over was that was obvious in the very first minute of this game, how solid his handle on the ball is. Change of direction at full speed while dribbling - not a problem. Few went with a 7 man lineup for the most part this is a break down on minutes for those players. Kispert 37 minutes, Timme 32. Ayayi 31, Nembhard 31, Suggs 23, Watson 18, Cook 11 minutes.

Of the 7 players everyone impressed me today except for Watson. What a big break for the Zags getting Nembhard cleared to play this year at the last minute. The big surprise for me today was how good Cook looked.

Timme and Kispert carried the team in the first half. But in the 2nd half especially down the stretch Suggs carried the team and was a force to be reckoned with. What was most impressive to me towards the end of the game was Suggs two great spot on passes to guards underneath the basket for 2 each layups. Suggs is not just a offensive weapon he could also be a assist magnet, with by far the best passing on the team (Sure was today).

Ayayi, Nembhard, and Cook all were ready for primetime and looked good. Onward to Auburn 0800 tomorrow. Go Zags

I wanted to pick up on this bc I went a long way through this thread before someone said his name (obviously it's bc so many played SO well).

I don't watch NBA bb unless it's the Finals or something.

I have never seen a player - ever - on any team, that can score that reliably at absolute top speed, running his fastest (on a BB floor) and yet able to convert near every layup. If he has the ball passed to him at full speed near the rim, I know it's going in.

I have never seen a player like that. I am sure some of the really good BB people have some good comparisons or some that might exceed him. All I know is that I've never seen anything like that.

Let me put it this way, I had the luck to see Jason Kidd in his final college year in the NCAA tournament, it shocked me to see a player who could control a ball like that, like an extension of his mind or something. I saw it, it shook me such that I never saw it again. Ayayi hits me the exact same way with the full speed layup-drive in the paint.

And again, I don't watch NBA so I am sure there are grown men that can match it, but not many

I think Anton W will get quicker feet, and add some 'hyper' to his court attitude when the occasion calls for it, as the season progresses.
I miss having the body, the rim protector, the shot blocker we usually have in the 5 spot. I don't know if Pavel could ever mature into that, I think its possible, but Ballo may get close to what we need there by February. Drew is certainly game for it but doesn't defend above the rim as well as many we have had, including Zach Collins, Petrusev, Karno because of his size and height, even Tillie when he was low in the paint. WCC could be the best thing for getting Ballo along, if Few will give him the PT.
I agree Suggs will never be as great as John Stockton, how many guards in NBA history could be eligible for that designation, but he will start for an NBA team some day I predict, and has an enormous ceiling potentially.
Few has defensive sets for tightening down on the opponent's opportunities to shoot the 3 and as the team gets more practice time, it would be called for if we played KU again.
It is obvious a lot of the new players do not know Few's systems yet, but you can see it coming. esp in limiting your shooting to attempts which are good shot to take. Some of our new guys were the hero of their high school and want to dribble too much.

Suggs is a ready. In 4 decades I’ve never said that before about one of our players. Needs a little work but not much. Corey has improved tremendously as has Joel. Times great but he’ll need some help. Whatta team!!

Only complaint is we gave up a lot of open 3pt looks. I also wish they would've played more 1-2-2 press with Watson on the court but overall this is up there with the Duke win!

Just food for thought...

Suggs only played 23 minutes for his stats...he had that “T” at the beginning of the game which counted as a personal foul so when he got his second foul in the first half, he had to sit which IMO took valuable PT away in the first half...I think he’d have 10+ assists and 30+ points...IMO
