WCC BEST SHOOTING CONFERENCE

- each year i read the college basketball preview magazines. i've noticed the wcc 'seems' to always shoot better than the other conferences.
- so taking this year's lindy's sports preview magazine i computed the fg and 3pt percentages for the top 11 conferences. the wcc comes out on top.

Good numbers. I feel the WCC has quite a Few sharp shooters over the years to help pad the stats.

WCC programs tend to attract perimeter snipers who can shoot from deep. These are kids who are great shooters but were maybe a bit undersized or under-recruited by P5 programs. Got me thinking about recent snipers who we saw come through the WCC

Not quite a complete list. I started culling some of the less great percentage guys who made less than 150 over 4-year careers.

Certainly some great shooters on that list.

Cool! Thanks for doing that research sorted on FGM. Based on that sort, Kevin Foster really stands out despite an average 3PFG%. He was a high volume shooter and could make some really deep ones. We held our breath every time he rose up from 5 feet behind the arc.

I didn’t realize Mickey shot over 46% from 3 for his career-that’s lethal. I clearly overlooked Jared Stohl from the Pilots-great player though most of his career was in the aughts vs the 2010’s.

Finally, I may not have selected the right “Haws” TJ was the better shooter by % but Tyler had more makes-coin flip or include both?

If I was making the list I'd probably have my top 10 as: Kevin Foster, Jared Brownridge, Jared Stohl, Johnny Dee, Olin Carter, Matthew Dellavedova, Calvin Hermanson, Jordan Ratinho, Jordan Ford, Mickey McConnell.

Surprised myself by not having anyone from BYU in my top 10. If I was going to pick one from BYU it would be Chase Fischer, only 2 seasons, but 215 @.389 in 2 years is better than TJ Haws or Nick Emery in my opinion.

Entirely possible my SMC bias is showing, but I do prefer a high % guy over a high volume guy, and its not like any of the guys on that list are truly low volume.

Ratinho & Stoll > Ross and Holms for sure. Avry shouldn’t have been there once I saw his low volume.

I may have selection bias towards some BYU players there because the were tough on the Zags :-) Moreso than Olin Carter who was a good player on some weaker teams

Before this, I had sort of forgotten about Calvin Hermanson-he didn’t look like a high level athlete but he sure was a great player. Sort of gets lost in the shuffle of the other SMC greats-Mickey, Delly, Omar, Jock, Ford, Waldow, etc...
