I think that is a good call for him. He will be in a much more stable situation.

- knew he would be leaving, said so many times.
- but glad he chose gonzaga and i enjoyed the two years watching him play and grow.
- wishing filip all the best.
- next man up.......the man child oumar ballo. i think he will be a known beast, across the nation, prior to tourney time.
His passing improved greatly as the season progressed, he was no longer a black hole when he got the ball. I smile when I recall that sweet alley oop to Killian during the second half of the WCC championship game.
Best wishes to him...Timme and Ballo should absorb those minutes.
Any word yet on Corey?
Message from Filip on GoZags...Good Luck seems sincere to me. Go Zags!

If it was truly sincere it wouldn't have blindsided our staff. This seems like trying to cover his tracks after the fact. But hey, when I was a 20-21 year old kid with that amount of pressure on me I might have acted similar. Hopefully he learns from his actions.
I think it's important to respect those who helped you along the way. I'm not disappointed that he chose to seek a new opportunity for himself, I'm disappointed at the way he went about it.

Great letter from Petrusev to Coaches, players, fans, university and ZagNation. I thought it was a great, heart-felt letter. I appreciated him saying that he gave every ounce that he had of himself to the university. I believe that. He really improved from his freshman year to the Sophomore season. 2nd or 3rd team All-American. WCC player of the year. Zags will miss him but he is ready for the next step. I believed that he would move on, and also feel it's the best choice. Glad to see he considers Gonzaga his second family. Best of luck to him always. Keep us informed Mr Petrusev.
Go Zags!!!
Go Zags!!! The Best Is Yet To Come!!!
He was very good as a Zag and performed better than expected--- very happy he was on the team and this just means the next man up will get a few more minutes ---- Timme, Watson, Ballo, and Zakharov.
Yes, I thought I saw that writing on the wall too. The roller coaster ride is tough to handle for some of these guys who are undervalued before their potential becomes apparent in college play. I’m sorry to see him leave as an unfinished product, but this might have a positive effect on team chemistry.

I am anxious to move on with Ballo........he's going to surprise us. Relentless motor. Big a** and makes space and grabs boards. He'll be a tough guy to move out of the post. Sometimes this type of big generates more anxiety than it's worth. A bit of the squad is now missing. I'm not sure we can grab a title but with Watson returning and with Timme, Ballo and Watson we're still there. I'm curious to see how Zac does. He was more highly touted than Filip. I'm hoping he lives up to his potential. Plus we're so solid at the guards position, we'll be fine. As for his letter, I think he began to really think about his departure. It's the end of a hugely fine time at GU. Leaves behind a lot. He's still in the NBA Draft where he wasn't rated very high. SO he's got some growing to do. Hoping for the best for him.
Whoops!
None of us know the details of how the release came out. Your response says more about you than about him. He blew up last year for us and I don't see a lot of upside in returning if he can get some series cash. Good luck and hope to see another Zag in the NBA.

Best of luck to the young man... seems like a good decision for him... time for PZ to step up....
Go!! Zags!!!

We will be fine. There were going to be fewer minutes for him anyway with all the talent we have.
I think the Zags will be fine...Filip was a great Zag and heading into this season would have been our most proven big, but with that said I viewed him as our highest floor but lowest ceiling of our returning post players...don't get me wrong I would have loved for him to have returned. If Timme, Watson, Ballo & Zakharov live up to their potential we will still have one of the best frontcourts in the country.

OPEN: What does losing Filip Petrusev mean to Gonzaga? What team should be preseason No. 1 now?

I am going to miss Fillip Petrusev a lot! He has such soft hands and was almost unstoppable once he got the ball in the paint. I really enjoyed watching him improve daily during the entire last season, and I know he will have a very successful professional career. I was also deeply touched that Fillip also plans to finish up his degree and graduate from Gonzaga University. We can’t ask more from a student athlete.
His decision to stay home next year makes a lot of sense to me. Here in Hawaii, one of the top freshmen women’s volleyball players in the country from Sweden is not returning for her sophomore season at UH due to the uncertainty of the Covid-19 pandemic. I’m sure that uncertainty was a factor in Fillip’s decision as well. Best of luck to this great Zag!!
...but seems a solid decision for Tru. Sincerely hope he manages to sort out the time & circumstances to earn his GU degree. Wonder how many credits he has remaining.

Expecting Zakharov & Ballo to factor large in Tru's stead.
:]
Yeah, we're "The Champs," uh-huh!
That was awesome, but how do you talk about Gonzaga basketball for 20 minutes and not mention Watson once? We are basically adding Ballo, Suggs, Watson, Cook, Strawther and Harris. Losing Tillie, Wooly, Gilder and now Petro will hurt, but if Kispert and Ayayi are back, I like our chances.
Weird shots fired by his agent toward Gonzaga.
Bad taste in the mouth.
Sadly, they confirmed some thoughts I had about the advice that was given to Petrusev. I hope he has a great career. It can difficult for gifted kids in every discipline to avoid pressure from well meaning adults, but maybe things will work out for him.
Wow! The chitchat about our players was fun. We still have a couple of secret weapons.
Random thoughts of G-League and JSA Bordeaux Basket make me want to pull a blanket over my head.
