    2022 - Caleb Houstan

Saw it already posted in the 2022 thread. Caleb Houstan recently revealed in a Sports Illustrated Blog that he has been offered by Gonzaga among other schools. Currently ranked the 7th best player in the country. Seems like our kind of guy. More to come, I’m sure. Along ways until 2022.

The pieces on the playing field are moving quickly.

We join Duke, NC, Virginia, Maryland, Michigan, Tennessee, Texas, and many more in the hunt. However, "Houstan has neither named finalists nor scheduled any official visits. Plus, his 247Sports Crystal Ball remains void of any predictions."
And to add to the intrigue, "Houstan could soon reclassify into the 2021 class, a decision that is expected to be made by the end of the summer."

The Duke basketball recruiters finally delivered their first offer to a 2022 prospect, but the five-star recipient appears to be a potential early graduate.

I would definitely be watching this name. We have started pushing for him pretty hard.

Now that he has reclassified, what does that mean for us?

It seems like he has the same measurements as Peyton Watson.

What was a possibility 3 weeks ago is now an established decision, it appears: Caleb will be a recruit in 2021.

"He was set to become one of the more highly ranked prospects in the class of 2022, but now Canadian native Caleb Houstan has decided to move into the class of 2021 according to Montverde Academy assistant coach Rae Miller. Houstan, who is currently viewed as the No. 7 ranked prospect in the 247Sports Composite for the class of 2022, is someone who can really make shots and has good size from the forward position.

At around 6-foot-8, Houstan has excelled in FIBA play with Team Canada, and also has shined while at Montverde Academy in Florida.

It has been widely assumed for a while that Houstan would end up in the class of 2021, but it was unknown exactly when he should make that decision. As it turns out, that decision came on Friday morning."

Five-star prospect Caleb Houstan has decided to move from the 2022 class up to 2021 where he will be a top priority for many premier programs.

With fellow Canadian and Montverde Academy Andrew Nembhard playing for the Zags maybe Caleb Houston will want to come to Gonzaga.

As with most of these reclassifications, it seems like he just moved back into the class he should have been in. He will be 18 in January. If he didnt reclassify, he would have been 19 half way through his senior year. Anyway, hopefully the Canada and Montverde connections help out. Just 1 more top 20 recruit we seem to have a decent shot at for 2021.

                  Gonzaga Bulldogs

Jalen Suggs is the first five-star commit out of high school for the Bulldogs but certainly won’t be the last. They’re in the running for No. 1 overall prospect Chet Holmgren and top-3 forward Paolo Banchero, along with Peyton Watson and Hunter Sallis. There’s a need for the team to land a small forward in the 2021 class to replace starting wing sharpshooter Corey Kispert. While the Bulldogs have offered Houstan, I don’t think they’ll be truly in the running for this one. They’re in much better position for the other top-10 small forward in Watson and probably will spend much more time recruiting him. But it’s amazing that the mid-major program is even in the position to pick and choose which five-star talent to prioritize.

It depends on the source as to whether a kid is a five star. Austin Daye was a five star with Rivals. I believe a couple of posters mentioned they saw Collins as a five star on a few sites. It's just Suggs is the 1st super elite recruit that GU has landed. Houstan is going to be a tough one cuz Duke is involved.

                      From 247 Sports: https://247sports.com/college/duke/A...sts-152575057/

"Five-star senior Caleb Houstan names his final four"

A 6-foot-8 forward with a smooth stroke, the senior at Montverde (Fla.) Academy and product of the U Play Canada summer program tells 247Sports that he is down to Alabama, Duke, Michigan and Virginia.

disappointing to not at least make the final four, especially after also missing out on watson...but as long as either arlauskas or strawther is ready to take over the starting 3 spot from kispert, zags will be fine...think the odds are good on at least one being ready. if not, another grad transfer wing could come into play. hopefully sallis is still in play...

It feels like he is following in the footsteps of UW a decade ago, and wanting to appear on a more national stage, so limited his choice to 3 east coast teams and Michigan.

Who needs every game on TV for exposure?
Not even a smile? What's your problem!

You have to admit the Zags TV shenanigans are abysmal. I'm sure Judge Judy would disagree, though.
