Default GU vs BYU (Provo edition) - Predictions/Thoughts/What you do hope to see

Zags head to Provo to take on a nationally ranked BYU. Cougars looked sloppy against Santa Clara until very late in the game last night... but they are also coming in on a 7 game win streak and are 8-1 since losing in Spokane.

What are you hoping to see tomorrow night? What are you expecting to see? Thought? Predictions?

Hope to see an injury-free Killian. Also, I just realized that Provo is 4,500 feet above sea level. We need Marty to play at least some minutes, otherwise our starters are going to get gassed at that altitude.

This is going to be a battle. I am not entirely sure we win this game and I am not sure if we lose it's a bad thing either as it may provide a little more motivation going into the tournament.

That said I never like to lose to BYU and I hope we win by 30 and grab a huge Quad 1 win.

Zags are obviously a better team according to all of the metrics, but BYU is pretty dang good too. If our boys limit them to under 30% from 3 Pt land and we shoot 70% or better from the line, we win 85-81.

This game has the difficulty level of a 2nd weekend March game.

Our defensive rotations better be dialed in. The LDS are going to bomb 3s. Petrusev and Timme need to go hard at Childs to get him in foul trouble.

Zags win if we limit their 3s.

BYU uglies things up. Expect a foul fest and we are not exactly known for converting on freethrows...

We either need to have a reckoning on closing out on three point shots or a prayer circle that they are off on their aim because their guards will kill us from deep if they are on.

I don't believe a competitive loss knocks us off the 1-line. That's what concerns me. I think it bumps us to the 1-seed in the East. Don't care who we play out there - but L.A. location vastly superior for number of reasons. I never want the zags to lose but I think I'd rather have 2 more losses that 1 more loss.

Personally, I think defensively SF is superior to BYU. Dalton Nixon is out for now and might not play until the WCC tourney.
Without him, they have only Childs and Kolby Lee. Granted, Gavin Baxter has returned to the lineup but he has yet to score in three
games. If BYU beats Gonzaga, his defense will be needed along with some hot shooting from the 3 pt. line.

My take is Zags by 10.

Spokane is about 1850, so not that great a jump in elevation.

I expect a closer game than what I expected last night, but I expect a solid victory. I think the Zags match up very well against this team, Childs or no Childs. This game is bigger to BYU than it is to the Zags, so I think they'll be the ones who will be playing tense, and as long as the Zags play to their usual game, they should be able to come home with the win.
