Default Who Wants To Dance ... ? 2020

In the tradition of the annual Who's In thread, here is a quick rundown of how the other ( and other ) conferences' regular season races are looking ... as in Who Wants To Dance? And who is just waiting for the end of the season.

Pithy observations are free of charge and have a strong bias towards smaller conferences.

    American Athletic -

The top six are probably all still hoping for what they think is a deserved at-large bid. 3-4 is realistic, possibly ...

    Houston 11-3
    Cincy 10-4
    Tulsa 9-4
    Wichita State 8-5
    SMU 8-5
    Memphis 7-6

I'm thinking Houston, Cincy, and Wichita State get in.

A10 - good for them. Two probables, possibly a 3rd. Dayton's a shoo-in, but they are only two games up on Rhode Island and Richmond is only a game behind RI.

    Dayton 13-0
    URI 11-2
    Richmond 10-3

    Let all three in ...

ACC - weird year, right? NC St's win over Duke on Wed probably gives them a sliver of hope.

    Louisville - 13-3
    Duke - 12-3
    Fla St. 12-3

    so those three are in

Virginia 10-5 ... I think somehow they make enough noise to get in as well.

NC St 8-7 ... just how much does the Duke win mean to the Committee? I don't think ( hope ) that it is enough

    we'll call it 4

    Big 12 -

    Baylor - 13-0
    Kansas - 12-1
    Texas Tech 8-5
    W. Virginia 7-6

    Two in easy.

If Huggins and Beard keep their remaining losses among these four, they'll probably dance, as well.

    Big East is Big Time.

    Seton Hall 11-3
    Creighton 10-4
    Villanova 9-4
    Providence 8-6
    Marquette 7-6
    Butler 7-7

It's looking like a .500 record will get you an invite EXCEPT for Providence which is 15-12 overall. They need something more, methinks.

Let's say 5 teams. Which would be more than I expect from the ACC or Big 12

for some reason, I have a soft spot for Winthrop. So I was rooting for NC Asheville to knock off Radford. Man, being a sports fan makes you wish for weird things. Anyway, Radford overcame a slow start and is pulling away from UNCA.

    Winthrop 13-2
    Radford 12-2
next nearest team(s) are at 7-7

    Big 10

God's gift to the 2020 Power 6 apologists, big numbers have been thrown around like "12 bid league". At some point, you just have to win games for me to take you seriously. I'll begrudgingly allow 8 teams in ...

    Maryland 12-3
    Penn St 10-5
    Iowa 10-6
    Mich St 9-6
    Illinois 9-6
    Wisconsin 9-6
    Rutgers 9-7
Michigan 8-7 ( ironically, they'll probably get in on the strength of their victory over the Zags )

Still just a one bid league, but at least there is a rock fight to get in the door

    Conference USA

three team race at the top of this one bid league. North Texas ( who lost their PG to some big time program via grad transfer ) is one of three schools to have the same starting lineup in every game this season.

    North Texas 12-2
    W. Kentucky 11-3
    Louisiana Tech 10-4

Yale teased us for a while, throwing their name in at-large pile of possibilities? Go make some presidential candidates, Ivy ... and hurry up, please.

Mid - American splits their league into two divisions. Akron is probably the only one who could pretend to have an at-large argument.

    East
    Akron 10-3
    Bowling Green 10-3
    Buffalo 8-5

    West
    N. Illinois 8-5
    Ball State 7-6

    Missouri Valley

Northern Iowa got bit tonight vs Indiana State. That should end any at-large talks for the once powerful Valley.

Aztecs are running away with it. Hopefully, their dominance won't scare off a second bid for the conference. I still think Utah State is the only other team with a resume to get in. No slip ups allowed.

    SDSU 15-0
    Utah St 11-5
    Nevada 10-5

Northeast. Merrimack deserves a huge set of kudos. I think they just finished their transition to Div I and they lead the league heading down the stretch.

    Merrimack 12-3
    St Francis 11-4
    Robert Morris 114-4

    No at-larges here. One bid

Ohio Valley . Ugh ... Murray State just took a "bad" loss, falling to Eastern Illinois. The top four of this league are good programs. But I don't think this is the year that they put two in the dance.

    Austin Peay 13-2
    Murray State 12-3
    Belmont 12-3
    Eastern Kentucky 11-4

Pac 12. In my view, they re-birth has underwhelmed, but they still appear to be on the verge of four bids.

    Colorado 10-4
    Arizona 9-4
    Arizona State 9-4
    Oregon 9-5

Those are my four ... but
the Committee try to also shoehorn in

    UCLA 8-5
    USC 8-6
