You can't make a half sandwich. If it's not half of a whole sandwich, it's just a small sandwich.

I’m out. I aggravated an old shoulder injury a couple of weeks ago. It hurts to dress myself, let alone perform upper body strength exercises.

Back to running on bad knees until those give out.

I thought it would take longer to feel this old.

I decided to give it a try again starting 7-1. I'll try to pick up some slack for ya' MCMM. But I also have body parts that unexpectedly fall off without warning so we shall see.
    But we don't play nobody.

I get it. Getting over the back injury sucked. I felt like I was getting into a groove again. Then I went and played some pick up bball this weekend and broke my index finger. So no push ups for a little while. Not a great start to my 40s one injury after the next.

My physician believes the injury is a labrum tear. I’ve been referred to a sports medicine specialist to confirm the diagnosis. I don’t have an appointment date. If it is torn, surgery will probably be necessary.

    Ugh.

    Welcome back.

I’m scheduled to see the specialist on August 18th. I’ve been very careful not to aggravate the injury while I wait. I’ve done no upper body strength training, no swimming or paddling, and very little work that engages that shoulder. Something as simple as reaching up to grab an item off of a high shelf sends a sharp reminder that something is wrong. I’ve been forced to use my non-dominant left arm for routine tasks like carrying groceries.

We’ll see how this plays out. I suspect that surgery is in my future.

    How's the shoulder feeling?

I haven't added to my push up total since the broken finger. I just have one excuse after the next. It's really hard once you lose momentum to get started again.

I have a torn labrum, a partially torn rotator cuff, and arthritis in that shoulder. They all stem from a gym injury that I sustained more than twenty years ago. I never took proper care of it, never bothered to see a doctor for it and never let it heal completely. I saw a specialist in August. He tentatively scheduled me for surgery in November, but asked me to perform a couple of months of physical therapy before the surgery. The therapy was mostly aimed at preparing the shoulder for a better surgical outcome.

The therapy worked better than expected. My shoulder is in better alignment that it was. The mobility has improved significantly. I went back to the surgeon on this past Wednesday. He took me off of the surgical calendar and recommended that I continue rehab through December. There is a strong probability that I won’t need the surgery.

Pushups feel pretty easy for like the first 3-4, then they suddenly get REALLY hard.
