Default Who Outside the Top10 do you want to avoid?

Which non currently top 10 team would you most like to avoid, or think GU would have the hardest time beating in the tournament?

I'd be least excited to see Kentucky or Illinois.

Kentucky has their usual group of run and gun elite long athletes with offensive firepower.
Illinois played us very tough in a big game last year and are much improved with some of the same guys but two elite post players, including a super burly 7' dude. I think his matchup would be a worse version of the Petrusev/Teske game.

I almost wrote T-tech as well, then thought the revenge potential would be satisfying. Since the start of 2020, T-Tech has been elite. (7th overall in Kenpom in the new year)

LSU and Auburn both scare me for some reason. Just seems like they are going to have that "nothing to lose" attitude come tournament time more so than most of the power 5 teams

Auburn @ #11 21-2. They’re doing a lot of things right. However, not that concerned (at this time) with 11-25 ranked teams. Pepperdine should be a solid win for the Zags. We’ve seen our guys play very well, well and not-so-well. My main ‘worry’ is how hot the BYU guys might be in Provo. The Cougars were lackluster in K2. I certainly expect them to be better competition in Provo. If the Zags match BYU effort things should go OK. BYU certainly will not underestimate the Zags. I think teams outside the WCC will underestimate GU - to their disadvantage.

Texas Tech would not be that much of a problem, if the refs would call fouls on them. As you could see last year they don't do that, especially if they get the big 12s own personal referee Higgins

For reference, in the last 10 games, the hottest teams (by adjusted efficiency) outside the AP top 10 are:

    1) Houston
    2) W. Virginia
    3) Tx Tech
    4) Penn St.
    5) Illinois
    6) Purdue
    7) Marquette

(Zags are #1 in last 10 overall, BTW).

None. We’re Gonzaga. They fear us.

Bring 'em on, I don't care. I had low expectations for the NCAA tourney at the start of the season. I still have much lower expectations for this squad than I normally would for a top 10 GU unit. Not that I think they can't go deep, but I didn't have 1-2 years to anticipate this tourney. In a lot of ways it's still a rebuilt team in a rebuild year and they are playing with House Money.

Agree! Anyone, anytime, anywhere. Old school’ish Zags squad: 7 man rotation, guts and toughness, unselfish, know how to grasp and execute a game plan. Low expectations (relatively speaking for a predicted 1 seed) nothing to lose.

Enjoy it Zags. Starting next season you will join the ranks of elite level blue bloods w roster full of future pros, short timer 1-2 years and doners.

If you are watching Michigan State tonight, you would have to acknowledge they are going to be a tough out.

There are several teams that deserve respect. There are none that the Zags should fear.

If you are watching the second half, Illinois looks like the tough out. Hahaha

Izzo in March isn't someone I'd want to tangle with ever - just like Boeheim/Syracuse.

There's a difference between "fearing" a team and thinking GU has a worse chance against them than against someone else, even someone else ranked a bit higher.

I specifically didn't mention fearing any teams, but was just curious about which matchups folks would prefer to avoid. If no preference at all, then so be it.

Seton Hall. Don't know how well we would contain Powell and they have absolutely elite interior defense.

Good pick, but they aren't outside the top ten.

Kentucky; Gonzaga has always had difficulty beating teams coached by Cal.

Houston, Marquette, and teams like that generally even if not ranked. Massive chips on shoulder, think they could/should be us and no better way to show it than beating us.

Wherever the selection committee places us, I don't want to play teams from the:

ACC, B-12, B10, BE, SEC, P12, AAC, or MWC conferences

If we are FORCED to play Houston, then each of their players should be forced to wear muzzles!!!

I agree with Reborn. Kentucky is fast, long armed, and attacks the boards. Dangerous

Texas Tech is on a prowl right now...….I would hate to see Oregon again!
