That's a stunner. I know they are hurting without Wiseman, but it's not like they are deprived of talent.

UNC is essentially Cole Anthony. He is that important. Probably more important to any team than any player in America.

Watched the 2nd half of this one and The Hall's Romaro Gill, at 7'2", is becoming a force in the paint at both ends of the floor. The Pirates could be a Sweet 16 team (or better!) before all is said and done.

Yes, they looked flat-out terrible in the last 5 minutes + 2 OT periods that I watched. They were somehow up 7 with 4 to play in regulation, and scored 1 point by free throw in that time.

I am wondering if they are just shell-shocked at this point. Like they all forgot how to play basketball. A good amount of this is on Roy. He a) recruited the kids b) he coaches these kids c) he then proceeded to call them an untalented bunch of players. Look, if you got recruited by UNC, you know how to play basketball... well. But it is Roy's job to develop them and mold them into the players they need to be at the college level. IMHO, he has failed them.

I flip flop on Roy Williams. He does some classy things then says comments like the above, and works at a place that is so challenged by academic ethics.

The Pelicans fans who showed up for Zion's NBA debut got their money's worth last night. . .17 straight points in just over three minutes. They play in the "Smoothie King Center". . .in that scoring outburst he looked like a Smoothie King. . .

Yo! RZ, thanks for posting the Others - especially this year with all sorts of ‘not the usual suspects’ doing pretty well and teams like UNC, etc losing games here and there. It’s going to be a very interesting March!

A good read on what and why UNC has had a tough time.

Bottom line is that Ole Roy struggles when his team doesn’t overwhelm the opponent with superior talent. I doubt he ever would’ve made it where he is today if he would’ve had to work his way up through the mid-majors. It’s pretty easy to get talent and win games at Kansas and UNC. You could pick 4 random posters on this message board and let them be the coaching staff of either of those programs and it would be hard not to win 20 games.

Roy will turn 70 this year, maybe he should retire...or hire better assistant coaches that can develop his players.

ETA: Koach turns 73 next month, he won't be let off the hook if the Dukies flame out in the Dance this year. It's going to get tougher on the blue bloods when the NBA lets 18 year olds enter the draft in a couple of years.

Today's WCC slate is a good one if you're interested in the race for second place.

BYU (3-2) at Pacific (3-2). Pacific already beat SMC. They play us and BYU only once.

    Pepp (2-3) at SC (3-2)

    USF (3-2) at SMC (3-2)
