no it is not an option....Watson has appeared in 15 games which exceeds the minimum number of games for a medical red-shirt in basketball

That's okay, I can't really see him playing 4 more seasons beyond this one anyway.

I am not going to question the coaching staff and decisions made regarding Watson’s shoulder. However, I am not going to dismiss some Legit worries about what this means for the rest of the year. The fact is the shoulder isn’t going to get better until after the season ends so my thought revolves around other options to supplement an unhealthy Watson. I think the narrative should revolve around who will be the player that steps up. Is it Arlauskas? Do we just keep a tight rotation and hope the players can withstand the extra minutes? My guess is we keep a small rotation the rest of the way and the players remaining on the bench are not ready at this point to significantly contribute.

I didn't know this fact. Is there supporting evidence for this? I'm not being sarcastic just looking for some other info to back it up.

If it's true that the best outcome this season for Watson is that he will stay as injured as he is with only a chance to get worse then you can expect him to be shutdown shortly. We don't need him for his 3-point shooting or ball handling, we need him for defense and rebounding which are most impacted by this injury.

As we learned with Tillie, the most important ability is availability. Losing a rotation player early in a critical game (or even before) is devastating.

I would love to see Arlauskas and Zakharov split Watsons minutes and Watson starts healing up/do what needs to be done to get him where he needs to be for the long term. Get them both some time --so that either can be plugged in where needed come conf/tourney and dance time and be comfortable with their contribution (do we need an extra big or an extra wing to contribute-- either option would be available).

Sucks for this year but his career is not worth one year here. Take the redshirt, get it fixed, healed, strengthened and come out swinging next year

Yeah, Huddy said he could redshirt on his pregame broadcast, but the Spokesman-Review says:
Watson doesn’t appear to be eligible to apply for a medical redshirt year. An athlete must be injured in the first half of the season and play in no more than 30% of the team’s regular-season games.

    Read this boys and girls

    Medical Hardship Requirements
To be eligible for a medical hardship waiver, a student-athlete has to meet the following criteria:

The student-athlete must suffer the injury during one of their four seasons of college competition or during the senior year of high school.
The injury must be incapacitating. That means it must be a season-ending injury.
The injury must occur prior to the start of the second half of the season.
The student-athlete must not have competed in more than 30% of the season or three contests, whichever is greater

I am a semi-religious man and I believe that when God closes a door, he opens a window. This sucks for Anton, but this is a window for Marty. This is a chance for Marty to show what he can do, and not just in garbage minutes. If we are to make any kind of noise in March Madness, we need a big body to push the other team around, and Marty is the guy who can do just that.

Such a bummer, but bring it's something that seemed inevitable I'm glad the decision is made early enough to hopefully get Arlauskas some reps before the tournament. I feel A healthy Watson might've been needed for a Final Four. Hope I'm wrong!

Anton is talented. I hope the surgery is performed sooner rather than later. He’ll have his hands full catching up on missed schooldays and healing and rehabbing. Recovering from shoulder surgery takes some time.

We’ve got a terrific team and Arlauskas has good size and skills that may improve quickly if he’s given the chance. If Few decides to use him, he’s going to experience a little pressure so let’s be patient.

Didn't Josh have his surgery in March? He was still not fully recovered by the end of October at the start of the new season. I hope Anton gets it done asap because it is a slow process. Those first 2 months are a combination of hell and torture.

Please explain? Did he have a hidden background in orthopedic surgey or physical thereapy that would assist in the repair of Anton's shoulder?

Vandal, perhaps bart was suggesting (with tongue firmly planted in cheek) Carl Maxey's pugilistic skills would help in the rough & tumble games ahead ?

The third leading cause of deaths in the United States are medical errors....John Hopkins Estimates that some 250,000 people die every year following doctor's orders. Other research has estimated 400,000....mistakes are made...

Mine own experience is that on 4 different occasions a specialist recommended surgery (back, heart, gall bladder, small intestine) but after consultation with the University of Washington and Swedish for second and/or third opinions.....it was determined that no operations were necessary.

When it comes to me or my family...trust but verify..... has been a prudent process

Carl was a expert in Law and had the ability to determine if any mistakes were made...iff there is any liability.....and he was aggressive in protecting peoples rights...…. and he was especially interested in athletes at Gonzaga.

It is always good to determine why something like this happened and if it could have been avoided ...maybe it could, maybe it couldn't...
