Default Johnathan Williams reportedly joining the Wizards

Maccabi Rishon LeZion announced the departure of Johnathan Williams on Monday noting that the 24-year-old American forward received an attracting offer from the NBA. The Washington Wizards are expected to ink him to a guaranteed deal, according to Moshe Barda of One.co.il.

So strange, he was probably the most effective layer on the floor and player 31 minutes.

He was brought on under an injury hardship waiver. That allows teams to temporarily have more than 15 on their roster when they have at least 4 players out with injuries.

Wizards have a couple of players getting close to returning.

Williams has to clear waivers. The funky thing about the NBA and G League is that the Wizards actually don’t have his G League rights. The South Bay Lakers do. https://t.co/2wGQLsG7iM
Well, that's just bizarre. Excellent analysis, thanks for sharing those.

Wonder if that will be (re)tweeted to any of our big recruits...

Still seems weird as he was likely making more money in Israel than he would be on a two-way contract (max = ~$250k).

I suppose it is a method for the two-way to allow him to stay on the Wizards roster if the Wiz want him to stay with them (as opposed to being assigned to the G) The two-way will just convert to a minimum deal once he hits the 40 day threshold. Curious to see if he would convert to a rookie minimum at ~900K or if he played enough last year to be considered a 2nd year player (min = $1.45MM)

I think Pargo was said to be making a ton of cash in Israel but still wanted to pursue that dream title of NBA player

JW III is playing in the NBA bubble. He started for Rui in last night’s win over the Celtics.

He grabbed sixteen rebounds for the Wizards.

I have a feeling that old dogs like Johnathan, Kyle, Kevin, Josh, Zach, et al will be in great demand with NBA teams in the coming months. Most teams will have cap issues due to the decline in revenues, and the high priced veterans will be released for cap reasons. A mid-level vet making $10 million is going to blanch at an offer of a quarter of that.
