Always appreciate your timely, informative postings, RB. Though rarely heard, hope others on the board do, as well.

    From the Seattle Times:

    https://www.seattletimes.com/sports/...inish-the-job/

“It’s going to be sold out,” said Crisp, a former UW point guard who has played – and lost – four times against the Zags. “The atmosphere is going to be electric. It’s one of those games that you dream about playing in. Both teams are going to bring it. It’s going to be a dogfight. Both teams are going to play hard.

Series: Washington holds a 29-18 edge in a series that began in 1910. The Huskies won 28 of the first 34 meetings before Gonzaga took control in 1998. The Bulldogs have prevailed in 12 of the past 13 matchups, which includes a five-game winning streak.
Last meeting: Rui Hachimura buried a mid-range jumper with 0.6 seconds left to give No. 1 Gonzaga an 81-79 win over Washington at McCarthey Athletic Center on Dec. 5, 2018. The Huskies trailed 79-71 with 2:01 left and used an 8-0 run to tie the score with 9.4 seconds remaining.

“I don’t see it as a rivalry, I see domination,” Jones said. “They’re a great program and kudos to them. I’m not going to let my so-called hatred for Gonzaga deny me from speaking the truth. But times have changed. We have a different coach in Mike Hopkins and different set of players with a new system. Maybe it’s time for a change in results and it’ll become a real rivalry.”
Thirteen years ago this week, Washington pulled off the unthinkable and upset Gonzaga 99-95 despite a 43-point performance from Adam Morrison. Several former Huskies look back at the win and give advice to UW before Wednesday's game against the No. 1-ranked Bulldogs.

When Gonzaga point guard Josh Perkins threw a no-look pass to Zach Collins for an easy dunk, you had to wonder if Washington administrators wondered why they ever agreed to this revival.
The Collins jam gave the Zags a 27-6 lead just eight minutes into their game with the Huskies three Decembers ago, underscoring the Grand Canyon-sized chasm separating the two programs.

Only 1 out of 4 "experts" selected the Zags to win, Myron Medcalf. The others have UW in very tight score predictions.

Seth Davis' take on GU vs. UW

No. 9 Gonzaga (-2½) at No. 22 Washington, 7 p.m., ESPN2: After an eight-year hiatus, these teams resumed their series last year with a classic game in Spokane, where Gonzaga won on a last-second bucket by Rui Hachimura. The setting will switch to Seattle, but I still think the Zags will pull through. The main question is how effective Gonzaga’s 6-10 senior forward Killian Tillie will be. He has been inconsistent in the five games he has played since returning from preseason knee surgery, but he and 6-11 sophomore forward Filip Petrusev, who is Gonzaga’s leading scorer (15.7) and rebounder (8.4), are the type of skilled big men who should be able to give Washington’s 2-3 zone trouble.

The Huskies have the best pair of freshman forwards in the country in Isaiah Stewart and Jaden McDaniels, who are combining for 31.5 points and 12.6 rebounds per game, but Washington has played its last five games at home against fairly weak opponents. Gonzaga is more prepared to win this type of intense game. The pick: Gonzaga

Why isn't the game in december 2016 considered part of the rivalry and history? Last year didn't end an 8yr hiatus since the Zags beat up on UW/Fultz 2 years prior. (karnowski with a breakaway dunk)

My memory is that the home for home series was officially resumed AFTER we played them one time. I can't remember the circumstances of that one time, were we in a preseason tournament where we ran into them by default? The one time was directly after not playing them at all for 7 or 8 yrs in a row. Anybody remember how we got into a game with UW? I vaguely remember the seattle press and UW were pressuring Romar to play us so he did when he would have never initiated it on his own volition. After that game the home and home series was agreed on. Wish my memory was more clear on that.

    Yep gloryhounds makes it clear,
The first game played between UW and GU after the 'hiatus' was in a Thanksgiving Tournament, and was not the result of Romar deciding to play us. After that it is my impression public opinion, and perhaps UW administrators, encouraged a revival of the cross state rivalry
