Default WASHINGTON STATE WORLD PREVIEW SCOUTING REPORT & 3 sisters

Well the 2 best players on this team are #45 Hristova (6'0") from Bulgaria last game 27 Pts & 10 rebounds, averaging 19.9 pts a game & average 6.6 rebounds per game. and #11 Molina (5'9") last game 17 Pts averaging 15.6 pts a game and 6 rebounds average per game.

Their are 3 sisters on this team #11 Molina (5'9"), #33 Molina (5'6), #22 Molina (5'9"), and they are from my favorite vacation spot Kaulia Kona the Big Island in Hawaii, Mahalo.

#41 Subasic (6'4") from Serbia 13 points & 6 rebounds last game is averaging 8.3 pts per game. #55 Murekatete (6'5") from Rwanda fouled out last game. #13 Levy (5'11") is from Israel had 7 rebounds last game.

#15 Motuga (6'0") is from Australia had 8 rebounds last game.

Last game they played 8 players all averaging double digit minutes.

This team brings the most height we seen so far this season.

Their 3 losses came against big colleges #7 Baylor, #6 South Carolina, and #14 Indiana in a tournament you got it 3 games in a row. They won all their other games. This team is good and will be by far our biggest test since Stanford. This will test our bigs inside Jenn, LeeAnne, and Melody. And of course all the Zags are going to have to pound the boards.

wsu seems to bring in a of tall Europeans.....Ana is from Romania but we only got her thru happenstance because we played her when she was in Oregon......are we REALLY looking at the far corners of the earth for some tall athletic posts, because if we're not, we should be.....

as far as the Molinas, wasn't there also an older sister that played a few yr ago.....?????

Is Wazzu better than Purdue? Not too sure about that. I was curious how they would do in their tournament, they got smacked by all 3 ranked teams. Indiana beat them by about 35.

I'm pretty sure there are just 3 Molinas, all of which are still there. Chanelle, the oldest, is by far the best.

Single game stats are essentially useless (anybody can have a good or bad game) particularly so when you have no idea who the team was playing.

Let's add a little bit of context for your last game stats:

Cougs Post a Season High in Points in a Winning Effort Over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

When WSU plays the Lady Zags, it will be the 4th ranked opponent that WSU has faced in their last five (5) games. WSU played Baylor, South Carolina and Indiana in St. Thomas in the Paradise Jam. While they went 0-3 in these games and they were not all that close, the cougars do have experience with taller players and faster players, both in the front court and the back court than the Lady Zags have.

In addition, the cougars have played and defeated two (2) WCC opponents so far this year both in Pullman; Pepperdine 85-48 (w) and BYU 67-50. If the lady zags put forth the same effort they did tonight against Montana State, they will be WSU's third WCC victim this year.

I don’t think you are going to see the same GU team in Pullman you saw in Boseman. After a long cross country trip with three games in a row... we saw a tired team. Nothing against MSU, they did a great job of filling in the paint and taking away our inside game. You will probably see our opponents continue doing that the rest of the year. We just need to get better with the inside out game.
If the guards keep shooting the 3s as they did against MSU... hopefully it will help open up the inside.
WSU is going to give us a game... and GU better bring their “A” game.
A couple of shoot a rounds and rest the legs...

    Go Zags!!

Washington State is the real deal beware!!! Remember BYU beat us 3 times last year if memory serves me correct. Well Washington State beat BYU 67-50 this year. Here is a astounding stat form that game, WSU out rebounded them 53 rebounds to 37 rebounds for BYU wow!

Other stats from BYU game #45 Hristova (6'0") scored 23 Pts, 9-10 free throws, 8 rebounds. she is extremely dangerous. #41 Subasic (6'4") scored 15 points and had 11 rebounds, #11 Molina (5'9") had 13 points and 8 rebounds.

CLF is going to have to seriously game plan for #45 Hristova, #11 Molina, and #41 Subasic. We need to get 2 out of 3 in foul trouble.

ZAB, I'm starting to think you overhype every upcoming Zag opponent. WSU got off to a nice start but came back to reality in St. Thomas. The real story is that BYU is not the same team as last year. They also lost to a not very good Utah team in Provo. They must be missing Gonzales badly.

Hristova and Molina can certainly light it up, but they've been doing that for years. Subasic has been fairly productive. Beyond those 3 they are getting very little scoring. The Cougs are still gonna be a bottom half of the Pac 12 team most likely. The fact that Hristova and Molina are their leading rebounders tells you something about their front court.

Can understand ZAGS Fans camping out on this Forum because, we of course love our Lady Zags. My question seatcatfan is why does a Huskie fan who is nothing but a Huskie fan literally live on a Zags Lady BB forum? Heck your not even in our conference Seacatfan.

I will let SeaCat defend himself, but it is widely known that SeaCat is a UW and Arizona fan, but most of all he is a women's sports fan.

We all need more women's sports fans and this board certainly can use all the posters it can get.

SeaCat has a difference of a opinion from you and instead of defending your post, you go after the poster? Why, he has just as much right to be here as you do?

    Thanks for your opinion SeaCat.

I would provide some additional information for consideration. Playing 3 time zones away is always very difficult and the start times can be considerably off from what a team is used to playing. Historically, teams (any sport) from the NCAA to the WNBA to the NBA always have the most trouble with road games when traveling to the East coast from the West coast. Finally, getting smacked around by the #2, #5 ranked teams along with Indiana who is up to #13 and is playing like a top-10 team is nothing to be too ashamed about. It does show that WSU is certainly not a team in the top-15 in the country by far, but could they eventually be in the top-30, time will tell.

WSU beat a very tough Boise State team on the road at Boise and although BSU is only 5-4, all of their losses have been good losses such as by 3 to Missouri State in Boise, by 12 to WSU in Boise, by 16 to #1 ranked Louisville in Louisville and by 12 to TCU in Fort Worth. Beating BSU in Boise was a very good win by the Cougars.

Consider that WSU is 4-0 at home and the game against the Zags is in Pullman. WSU has already beaten two WCC opponents by a combined 54 points including BYU (predicted to finish 2nd in the WCC) by 17 points. Add in the revenge factor as Hristova and Molina, both seniors, have never beaten the Zags as Gonzaga has won the last 3 matches against the Cougars.

The Cougars will definitely be up for the Lady Zag visit and I expect a very difficult game on Sunday. Should the Lady Zags win, yes they have shown all year to have the better team, but all it takes is for the Cougars to step up their game a little and Gonzaga to let their game slip a little to result in a Cougar victory.

Less than 24 hours until game time,

    Go Zags,

Highlights from a pre-game write-up from the Spokesman Review:

No. 18 Gonzaga women expect tough test from regional foe Washington State
    UPDATED: Sat., Dec. 7, 2019

For as much success as 18th-ranked Gonzaga has had against Pac-12 neighbor Washington State, the Cougars have been a tough out in Pullman. The Bulldogs broke a fourth-quarter tie before pulling away from WSU 64-56 in 2017, their previous meeting at Beasley Coliseum. WSU clipped Gonzaga 54-48 at the same venue in 2015, part of the Cougars’ best start since 1989. When the programs meet again on Sunday in Pullman, Gonzaga (8-1), which has won nine of its past 11 against WSU (5-3), expects another firm test.

Cougars star Borislava Hristova – a versatile, 6-foot fifth-year senior expected to hear her name in the the 2020 WNBA draft – is a major emphasis for the West Coast Conference power. This will be Hristova’s fifth meeting with Gonzaga; she averaged 16.3 points and five rebounds against the Bulldogs in the three games she was healthy. The three-time All-Pac-12 selection and two-time Cheryl Miller Award candidate – given to the best small forward in collegiate women’s basketball – broke her foot 8 minutes into a 2016 game at Gonzaga, ending her sophomore season. Hristova was later granted a medical redshirt by the NCAA, giving her a fifth year at WSU. She’s 110 points from breaking the school’s all-time scoring record (1,967 points).

“That extra year really helped me develop as a player,” Hristova said.

Gonzaga will also key on WSU guard Chanelle Molina (15.6 ppg), who is shooting 42.9% from 3-point range.

Pretty much spot on. My Coug's have improved a bit over last year but haven't really shown they are in GU's class at all IMO. BYU game was encouraging but I totally agree they are missing Gonzales a ton. She's dynamic player and they really don't have that element without her. We knew the Tournament would result in 3 losses. Baylor and S. Carolina were too physical for us to handle and Indiana is just a really good team. Sound fundamentals, good shooters, and some good size inside. I believe they beat S. Carolina.

The good news is we have enough inside that we don't have to play Hristova at the 4. We were without our starting center (Nankervis) the last game to an injury and down a rotation guard as well (Muzet) who I think would have been counted on for defense against GU. Bella Murekatete gives us a lot of size but is still pretty raw inside and gets in foul trouble. A good one down the road if she works but tries to do too much currently.

It's definitely still the Molina/Hristova show. We do a bit better managing pressure but we still don't have the depth of ball handlers at times and we can really struggle from 3.

On a "TV" note, be prepared if you are watching the Live Stream. Hopefully we will have an announcer. We did for the last game but you never know going into a game if they will sync up the radio with the Live Stream. The biggest drawback with the Live Stream games is that the video comes from the "scoreboard" so every made home team shot has a very long replay and you miss the continuing action. It seems a bit quicker this year but it still makes the game really tough to watch. That's the Pac 12 Network for you though.

I have really enjoyed this years GU teams when I have been able to catch them this year. The twins seems to have really come on, at least one of the Troung (sp?) twins looks really good with a great 3. The other twin looks good as well. Impressed with the potential depth this teams has and I always will root for Katie Campbell! Really glad to see her find a role for GU.

Radio show said Laura Stockton in attendance along with 4 bus loads of zag fans, broadcaster said Zags fans out numbers WSU fans. BYU averaging over 5,000 attendance (according to broadcaster) this year of course Zags still #1 attendance.:roll eyes:

41-23 Zags lead at Halftime. Jessie had 2 blocks first half and 5 assists go girl. Great 1st quarter. All the subs came in last half 2nd quarter, and it got a little sloppy. But still great 1st half. Jessie all over today running on high octane wow!

Great 1st Half Lady Zags. All 5 starters looked awesome 1st half. Would say this was our best 1st half I saw this year. Was great to see all the Zags playing good minutes. AV did miss a couple of bunny shots. One of the Troung sister caught Jenn napping on a pass. But heck that was a great 1st half.

Not even close. According to BYU official statistics. which is thru Friday's game with Arizona State, BYU has had a total of 7,506 fans for 3 home games for a total average home game attendance of 2,502 per game.

When playing away from Provo, BYU has played in front of 5,205 fans for 3 away games for an average away attendance of 1,735.

End of 3rd quarter 61-35 Zags. Lady Zags really looking good thru 3 quarters heck we could have all 5 staters in double figures. Great defense on their #1 player.

Leeanne 16 pts, 10 rebounds, Jill 14 pt, Jenn 13 pt, Jessie 9 pt, Katie 9 pts. Heck even Gillian got a bucket today whoa. 4th quarter we let up and lot more subs and their leading scorer went off in 4th quarter defense out the window. But it was a great victory. Final score 76-53 Zags win big time!!!!

Lady Zags were 8-16 on 3s today they were firing on all cylinders. And that was with Katie going 1-5 on 3s. Katie had 2 pretty mid range jumpers today, good to see her game continuing to expand and get better. Outscored 4th quarter but we were playing subs and they were playing starters so all good. Keep rooting for AV don't get me wrong but she needs super glue or practice grippers to keep hold of that ball, then she threw a inbounds pass to out of bounds (nice pass if Jessie was their LOL). But great experience again for the subs they are getting good minutes against good teams good stuff.

Nominate road runner Jessie Loera for setting the pace today you were my Most Valuable Player of the game. Warrior of the game Jill Townsend playing tough and just dragging that leg along for the ride. Way to suck it up for the team Jill. Double double by Leeanne today your awesome girl. Jenn, Katie, Jessie, Leeanne, Jill best starting 5 performance of the year (Jellying together like Jello)

Just have to say again Jessie was on Hyper Drive today, truly impressive (ROAD RUNNER)!!!!!! BEEP BEEP BEEP

    Great game Lady Zags!!!!!!

Just got back from singing Christmas hymns for a evening service. Small children singing "Jesus Loves Me" melts your heart. This is the first verse 1. Jesus loves me! this I know, For the Bible tells me so; Little ones to Him belong; They are weak, but he is strong. (Chorus) Yes, Jesus loves me, Yes Jesus loves me, Yes Jesus loves me, The Bible tells me so. Their was a couple of kids 4 years old just singing their lungs out with Christmas Joy. Tonight service was all the Christmas present I needed priceless. It also brings such joy to sing old Christmas songs like "Away in a Manger", "Hark! The herald Angels Sing", "O Holy Night", "Silent Night", "Holy Night", "The First Nowell", "Joy to the World! The Lord Is Come"

Zag Fans as we go into the student Christmas vacation after next week wishing you all and your families a Merry Merry Christmas.

Lady Zags yes we know you have to study for exams, but now you have a well deserved 5 days to rest up for your next game and take care of those aches and pains. Thanks Lady Zags for contributing to another special day for Lady Zag fans.
