Gonzaga Baseball Releases Upcoming 2020 Schedule

    Baseball Releases Strong 2020 Schedule

GU will play 15 games against 2019 NCAA Tournament teams

SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga baseball head coach Mark Machtolf released the squad's 2020 schedule on Tuesday, which includes 15 games against NCAA Tournament qualifiers from last season.

The non-conference schedule is highlighted by a four-game series on the road against 2019 College World Series participant Arkansas and four games against last year's regional host and No. 1 seed Oregon State. Three-game sets against Loyola Marymount and Cal, as well as a single mid-week game late in the season at Stanford round out the matchups against some 2019's most successful squads.

"Our goal every year is to play as competitive of a schedule as we can that will put us in the best position to win the WCC, advance to the NCAA tournament and ultimately make it to Omaha," Machtolf said. "We feel this non-conference schedule accomplishes that goal on paper, our players will have the opportunity to play in some big-time venues and atmospheres throughout the season. We also look forward to giving our great fans in Spokane 24 opportunities to see us play at Patterson Baseball Complex."

Gonzaga returns 14 letterwinners from last year's squad that went 31-24 and finished second in the league regular season race. The returning group includes All-WCC First Team pitcher Alek Jacob, Second Team infielder Ernie Yake and honorable mention selections Mac Lardner, Brett Harris, and Guthrie Morrison. Left-hander Mason Wells also returns after being named to the WCC All-Freshman Team after his rookie season.

GU opens the season in Surprise, Ariz., for the fourth season in a row and will face BYU, Oregon State twice and New Mexico to finish from February 14-17. Trips to Arkansas and South Alabama round of the next two weekends in February before GU returns home for three straight weeks.

In March, Gonzaga will host a four-game set against CSUN on March 6-8, followed by consecutive weekends at home to open WCC play with Santa Clara and Portland. In between each of those series GU will play single mid-week games on the road at Washington (March 10) and Washington (March 17).

The rest of the league schedule shapes up with road series at San Diego, San Francisco, Saint Mary's and Pacific, and home series against Pepperdine and BYU. The BYU series will be played during the final conference weekend on May 14-16.

GU's non-conference slate also features two-game sets at Boise State and at Oregon State to total four against the Beavers for the year, single games at San Diego State, at Oregon, home against WSU and at Stanford, which is the final game of the regular season.
