Default GU/UNC on the big screen at the Pavilion in Riverfront Park

From the article: The Watch Party for the 6 pm tip-off will be free, and show the game on two jumbo screens. There will be heaters throughout the Pavilion, food trucks on site, No-Li beers in a beer garden and Indaba coffee and hot chocolate.

See the end of the article for info on how to get tickets.

It’s like college basketball’s version of the Winter Classic!

I hope the ESPN broadcast crew cuts to that scene frequently. Let’s show the world just how crazy Spokane is for Zag hoops.

Speaking of crazy for hoops, if Buzz Williams is able to rebuild Aggie hoops, no Texas 5 star in his right mind would ever consider leaving Texas. One visit to College Station proved that to me...Aggie fans are a loyal bunch, and there's millions of them out there. A&M was Drew Timme's second choice IIRC.

Incidentally, for those of you in the Spokane area, and who may not be aware, there is another pretty cool option available. The Village Theatre Cinema at Wandermere, 12622 N Division shows all Gonzaga men's basketball games for FREE on the big screen. My wife and I have done this and its a nice atmosphere, surrounded by other GU fans, watching the game on the big screen with movie theater sound.

I wonder if the Garland Theater will have a watch party as well. They have in the past for the Seahawks and GU. I just ordered my tickets for the Hoopfest watch party, the website says available the 18th but it must be Eastern time zone since I was able to do it just now and it is just past 9:00pm here in Spokane.

    From today's Spokesman-Review:

People have asked why we’re doing this at the Pavilion instead of at the Arena or maybe some theater – likely because it’s December.

    That’s an easy answer.

Ten years from now, will you remember watching a game in a theater or will you remember that time when you got together with a few thousand of your neighbors to watch one of the most important games in Gonzaga history in one of the most iconic places in all of Washington? This is one of those things they’ll be talking about decades from now.

And you’ll be there. Besides, watching a basketball game outdoors on TV during football weather is exactly the sort of thing that makes Spokane what it is.

But there’s an even bigger reason why you should be there.

Oftentimes, we don’t recognize the biggest moments in our lives, the moments we talk about later in life and can’t help but smile about what they meant to us. What if you could have one of those moments, only instead of realizing how important it was to you and to our community decades after it actually happened, you instead lived in that moment? You celebrated it and cherished it as it happened?

If I lived in Spokane, I like to think I would bundle up, brave the cold, maybe take a wee nip along-- for medicinal purposes, of course -- and root root root for the home team.

I heard, but I have no verification, there were approximately 2000 free tickets handed out. I would like to think if this was any kind of a success they would do a repeat for March Madness. The weather would be better, and daylight longer. I hope someone who attended files a report?

    - I was at the outdoor watch party.
    - not good at a head count, but organizers pre game had said a thousand tickets sold, but you did not need a ticket to attend. my guess 1,500?
    - the pavilion roof was lit up in red, with blue accents, cool looking atmosphere.
    - beer garden and 3 food trucks.

    - yeah, it was a blast. not that cold, plenty of portable heaters for those who needed them
    - lots of cheers on good plays and such.
    - I hope they do this again, maybe on the saint Mary's or byu games?

    - and yes seeing the game up at the cinema on north division, is a unique, positive watch as well.

A view of the Pavilion last night from the Parkade (looking NE). The ‘clock tower’ was also lit up with Zag colors. This was around 5:45 PM.
