Default First Week in the WCC off to a Mediocre State

Day 1 under our belts and the WCC did not exactly overwhelm tonight. Tonight's results are as follows:

    Saint Mary's 72 - Nevada 78 @ Reno, NV
UC Santa Cruz 51 - Santa Clara 109 @ Santa Clara, CA
San Francisco 90 - Northern Colorado 83 @ Greeley, CO
    Pepperdine 48 - Washington State 85 @ Pullman, WA

St. Mary's loses a tight one in Reno, Santa Clara holds serve at home, SF gets a good win at Northern Colorado and Pepperdine leaves their game in Malibu.

Portland plays on Thursday, then lots of big OOC games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Need to make hay while we got the opportunity.

Saw the Pepp team at the airport today and spoke with one of the players. They were pretty disappointed/chagrined about their performance against WSU. Now that I've seen the score, I can see why.

What a strange game. I watched first quarter, then left. Looking at box score Arizona dominated Q1, SCU dominated Q2, Q3 was even and Arizona dominated Q4. 65-52 Arizona final.

Lots of WCC-Pac 12 match ups today. Stanford visits USF, UCLA hosting LMU and Washington St. hosting BYU.

Don't watch the BYU-WSU game. May cause blindness. 7-6 BYU most of the way thru Q1.

Not the WCC's day. WSU pulling away late up 17 in the closing seconds. Johnson and Moody didn't get much help.

UCLA is blowing out LMU at halftime.

I've streamed at least parts of all 3 games. BY FAR USF looks the best of the 3 WCC teams. Hanging tough against Stanford. Technically they are the only 1 w/ a home game, but it's not on campus. Playing at Chase Center, the Golden State Warriors new digs, and based on a player introductions at the beginning I'm guessing there are at least as many Stanford as USF fans there.

Here are the additional results for week one in the WCC Wbb:

    Thursday - 11/7/2019
Portland 70 vs Utah State 64 - Logan, UT

    Friday - 11/8/2019
Santa Clara 52 vs Arizona 65 - Tucson, AZ
UC Santa Barbara 43 vs Saint Mary's 64 - Moraga, CA
UMKC 60 vs Pacific 89 - Stockton, CA

    Saturday - 11/9/2019
Brigham Young 50 vs Washington State 67 - Pullman, WA
Loyola Marymount 52 vs UCLA 74 - Los Angeles, CA
Stanford 97 vs San Francisco 71 - San Francisco, CA

    Sunday - 11/10/2019
    Saint Mary's 67 vs Wyoming 69 - Laramie, WY
Cal Poly 53 vs Pepperdine 63 - Malibu, CA
CSU Bakersfield 48 vs Gonzaga 92 - Spokane, WA
Portland 78 vs Weber State 59 - Ogden, UT

Some interesting games this past week in the Wbb of the WCC.

    1. WSU easily handled Pepperdine and BYU at home by 37 and 17 in Pullman. May be a very difficult game for the Lady Zags.
    2. In addition to WSU, the Pac-12 had little trouble with the WCC. UCLA by 22 over LMU, Stanford by 26 over USF and Arizona over SC by 13.
    3. Call out to Portland for beating Utah State and Weber State, both on the road. The Pilots off to a good start this year.
    4. St. Marys lost to Wyoming in Laramie, Wy. Wyoming may be another difficult road game for the Lady Zags.

Only a few interesting OOC games in the WCC this upcoming week; Pacific travels to Corvallis to play the Beavers, USD travels to the Air Force Academy and the Lady Zags travel to the farm to play Stanford. Let's hope the WCC turns around week one results in week two.

McDavid is trying to beat Oregon St. by herself. She has 18 of their 24 at the half on 9-11 shooting. Beavs also helping Pacific out w/ 15 turnovers, mostly unforced. 34-24 OSU at the midpoint.

Looks like Pacific will come up a little short, but they've hung around all game. Down 12 w/ a bit more than a minute left. Great effort by McDavid, 32 points on 14-20 shooting.
