I don't understand why the NCAA doesn't take a stance on athletes and attending college, as they have in Baseball and Football. I DO get it that the NBA won't allow high school seniors to come directly, but that should be THEIR problem and not the NCAA. Maybe working with the NBA and have them drop that age requirement, which is not likely, or have them expand it one more year. Then those that choose college would have to attend and keep up their grades to continue playing, or go to a lesser professional league, either domestically or overseas.
It has been reported that Adam Silver plans to reverse the NBA age restriction.

They still aren't paying the athletes (nor should they) and they are still not a giant profit machine taking advantage of student athletes. All they did today was what was expected, they started the process of defining what the parameters would be for players using their NIL's to make money. There will be limits, guidelines, and restrictions in the end that will regulate what can and can't be done to retain their SA eligibility.

Wait how are the NCAA and it's member schools not making giant profits every year off football and basketball? The cow is out of the barn on this one and the NCAa is just trying to catch up.

The revenue sports have to pay for the non revenue sports in the college model along with all expenses of the athletic program. You then countered that they could just eliminate those other sports. The problem is that it's not possible due to conference affiliation guidelines and Title IX. In any case, if you do some research you will find that most college sports teams break even or lose money. The NCAA tournament makes a lot of revenue but it doesn't net huge money by the time everything is distributed.
