DURHAM, N.C. – Former Gonzaga baseball player and current prospect in the Seattle Mariners farm system, Wyatt Mills, was selected to the USA Baseball roster for the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Premier12™ on Thursday.

Premier12™ tournament is the first opportunity for Team USA to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games.

Mills joins a 28-man roster that is made up of 15 pitchers and 13 position players currently not on an MLB 40-man roster, and features six former national team alumni and seven of the MLB Pipeline top-100 prospects. The U.S. will begin the WBSC Premier12™ in Guadalajara, Mexico, from November 2-4 as a member of Group A with the Dominican Republic, Mexico and the Netherlands. The top two nations from Group A will advance to the Super Round in Tokyo from November 11-16. The top finisher from both the Americas territory and Asia/Oceania territory (excluding Japan) will join host-country Japan and WBSC Baseball Europe/Africa Olympic Qualifier champion Israel in the six-team Olympic tournament. The final two Olympic berths will be decided in March 2020.

Mills, a Spokane native, recently completed his third season in the Mariners organization with eight saves and a 4-2 record for the AA Arkansas Travelers. In his minor league career, Mills has a 3.57 earned-run average and has struck out 154 batters in 126.0 innings to go along with 25 saves and 10 wins.

As a Zag, Mills worked his way into being one of the best closers in the nation during his four years at Gonzaga. As a senior, the Spokane native posted a 1.79 ERA and minuscule 58:4 strikeout/walk ratio while saving 12 games for the Bulldogs, the second-most in a single season in program history. He is also second in school history with 21 career saves, two coming as a sophomore and seven as a junior. Mills was the first player from the West Coast Conference selected in the 2017 draft, going in the third round as the 83rd overall pick by the Mariners.
