During the interview with Steven Karr, it was brought out that Chet Holmgren only weighs 175 pounds at 7 feet tall and that he and his father feel it would be counterproductive to be in a system that would require him to play him inside and get pounded by much bigger and stronger players. GU already has players to fill that roll on board.

Maybe a little more Austin Daye than early KO but still, that was a long time and maybe two or three different playing styles ago. At 175 he is going to get hurt in the college game as he tries to defend against a slashing forward or banging center.

All that being said, he really could be a true game changer as a whole defensive philosophy against the zags would have to adjust hard

Ayayi was 17 and didnt turn 18 until March of his freshman season, so he was actually about 10 months younger than Pavel will be for his frosh year.
Thanks bdmiller7. I did not know that. Real curious to see what bigs rotation shakes out and how Few doles out minutes. Had thought the 17yo Ballo would be on the Rui timeline: no RS but just dipping toes in water kind of minutes year 1, then I watched him in FIBA this summer.
Even though I care a lot about my basketball opinions, they are like comparing a bicycle to a championship motorcycle who is our coach. . ZagsGoZags

Shows how young Ballo really is. I read one preview that thought he was the youngest player in D1. I too thought he'd play good minutes this year but most of these interviews of people around the program expect him to take time to adjust and dont expect much until next year. Cant wait to see how all these new pieces fit.

The host mentioned up a couple times ago that he ran into Ballo at the local grocery store. I hope he gave him a warm handshake and friendly welcome to the northwest.

Moving from Mali to Spokane, WA all alone without your family has to be daunting at any age, let alone someone who is barely 17.

If/when any members on here run into the players around town (especially the freshman or foreign students) please give them a friendly welcome and thank them for traveling halfway across the globe.

It's probably not that daunting, after all Spokane is a lot like Paris except a little smaller.
