    Default Three Point Shooting 2019-2020

Out of desperation, to get this board back talking GU basketball …

Will this team be able to shoot 3s at a high enough percentage to utilize all that talent down low?

    Never mind.

    Hit the wrong "Favorites" tab.

Lost track of where I was.

    Carry on.

    Foo question:

Can ANY team ever hit "enough" 3s?

Now that's an existential foo question.

    I rate this 5 Rem air three-tars:

Let me rephrase, because that is true, we did promise that or I wouldn't be here (or ignored even more):

Can a team ever hit enough shots from far away?

I hope they make more three pointers than they give up. . .especially in post season games.

    Davey Stone:

(opening a flask) Your honor, I still got a pretty good jump shot. Let me show you. (he takes a drink of whiskey, and then jumps very quickly, and not very far) {the people viewing just shake their heads} I’d hit a three-pointer, except I’d have to drop my pants and pop a thumb up my boo-boo.

There should be one circle, maybe with a radius of 3.141 feet, situated 3.141 feet behinds the tip of the 3 pt arch, and if someone hits a shot from within that perfect circle, that team is awarded, 3.141 points, which - if only one team hits one from that spot, would alleviate the need for lots of OT games.

How about that idea for a fun game?

Admittedly, that would require a ####load of math if a team had a bunch of 3.141 specialists that hit more than 31.41% from that spot. But our team has a good gpa average, normally about 3.141 or so, and it might benefit us.

    I will stop now.

This team? As in, “the Foo?”

I’ll contribute my career 0.000 varsity three-point shooting percentage (on 0/1 attempts). I hope you all can bring that up a little bit.

It started with me hitting the wrong "Favorites" tab, I have one set for Foo, one for MBB. My well-intentioned effort to get the MBB back to talking about something related to basketball first appeared here.

I decided that this thread could turn into a fun little foo thread about existential need for 3 pointers, that "3" is a magic number, as we all learned in school house rock, and anything else foo.

I had exactly 0 "varsity" attempts from 3, as I didn't play varsity, wasn't good enough. Might have been skilled enough, but nowhere near a good enough athlete.

I did play frosh basketball, and as about the 8th man on the roster, I don't recall hitting a 3, though I didn't go entirely scoreless. I wasn't very good, even though it was a huge school, our first 6 were so much better than the rest of us frosh that I had little hope.

I am impressed you made the varsity. That is something.

Did anyone else play that high a level?

It wasn’t impressive. There were 135 students in my high school. 25-30 boys would try out to fill a varsity team, a JV team, and a freshmen squad. The coaches rarely cut anybody, but they would candidly tell some students that they were unlikely to see meaningful varsity playing time. A few upperclassmen would never advance beyond playing mop up minutes for the JV team. I made the twelve-man varsity team as a junior, but I was never higher than the tenth man on the varsity depth chart. I was still splitting time between JV and varsity ball as a junior and used sparingly as a senior. We had to be in critical foul trouble for me to sub in during meaningful varsity action.

I only played JV my sophomore year of high school. I got cut from Varsity my junior year. There was a very talented group of kids in the class after mine. They won the freshman title and my JV team which was made up mostly of sophomores went winless for the season. Losing every game is soul crushing. We lost a game 80-20 one time. It was ugly.

I didn't officially play after the freshman team. I went to a big school (400+ per grade) but basketball wasn't really our forte, and really, anyone who tried out was on the team (because so few tried out). I played on the varsity summer league team and practiced with varsity a few times in 10th but quit because 3 hour practices 5 days a week were too much for the heavy load of classes I was taking. Most of the girls on the team were miserable to be around, so it wasn't like it was going to be at all enjoyable.
