Six Zags Named to All-Star Summer Teams
Lardner earned honor in prestigious Cape Cod League
SPOKANE, Wash. – Six Gonzaga baseball players were named to their respective all-star teams in summer leagues around the country, including pitcher Mac Lardner in the prestigious Cape Cod League.
Along with Lardner, infielder Ryan Sullivan, pitcher Mason Wells and outfielder Isaac Barrera were named Alaska League All-Stars for their Anchorage Bucs squad. In the West Coast League, Bellingham Bell outfielders Guthrie Morrison and Jack Machtolf also put together seasons worthy of being named all-stars.
Lardner, playing for the Bourne Braves, has started five games and posted a 2-1 record with a 1.29 earned-run average. He has 22 strikeouts in 28.0 innings through his five starts.
Sullivan is second in the Alaska League with five homers and first with 24 RBI through the team's 32 games, while his teammate Barrera is fifth in the league with a .299 batting average and second with 22 runs scored.
On the mound for Anchorage, Wells has been solid, going 2-1 in five starts with a 4.13 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 28.1 innings. The trio has helped lead the Bucs to a league-best 23-9 record thus far.
Bellingham teammates Morrison and Machtolf have patrolled the outfield for the Bells. Morrison is seventh in the league with a .347 batting average to go along with 28 runs and 16 RBI in 32 games played.
Machtolf is hitting .294 with 16 runs and 18 RBI in his 26 games, while the Bells are 17-15 overall and in second place overall in the North Division of the WCL.
