Cody Martin started but I didn’t think that he played all that well.

Zach was still leading the scoring for LA with 15. He had 1 rebound, 5 assists and a steal, but 4 turnovers. Chicago was fast and aggressive.

Starters tonight: Young, Mathias, Johnson, Caroline and Perkins. Meanwhile, Zach Norvell is out with a SI joint contusion, and will be day to day. Makes some sense to get Norvell a rest day as well since he’s played 4 games in the last 5 nights.

Game 1 but like you said is really struggling.. getting pushed out of the way very easily which surprises me.. looking very timid. Don't be too nice Rui!!

Started the game 1/7 FG, then had a much better 2nd half. Was happy to see him use his versatility after halftime. HIt a long range jumper, connected on a couple hook shots, and had a sweet alley oop finish. Played solid D too, with a couple hustle blocked shots.

His time at the 4 was rough yet looked much better at the 3 position.

Weird observation...it lappeared like Rui lost muscle mass/definition since Zags season ended instead of gaining it. I expected to see him more filled out, or ripped like we saw with JIII last season. I'd venture to guess Rui is down 5-10lbs since March.

His game is still developing esp at the highest level, yet will need to really improve his awareness/feel in the League. He has a tendency to play with blinders on, which is fine when dominant at college level, yet will have to learn to find guys or options when he's cut off. It will come.

Also, I see his phantom screens are still in full effect. Rui has a unique ability to never actually make contact with the defender on his screen and rolls. Sometimes it's called for given the spacing or lane opening yet rarely at the NBA level. Picks are usually PICKS. And Rui makes up for it with his tremendous length and finishing ability, yet this will eventually get scouted out. I know Texas Tech nor FSU took his screens seriously.

Rui will be fun to watch grow his game, still feel we are just scratching the surface with him.

The day he develops a bit better vision, more strength, and most importantly, a mean streak...watch out....sky is the limit.

I hope they keep using him at both forward spots and not give up on one or the other. While he looked weak, timid, and shy at PF, I think he can hold his own as he grows/matures.
