I had no idea this "stuff" was already going on. Shady doesn't even begin to explain this.

Let me ask those in the know: As a private institution, is GU automatically shielded from Freedom of Information requests, or does something beyond that need to be put in place?
We didn't want the guy anyway.

Private-Public partnerships are not unheard of, but this one gets my Spidey-sense tingling.

    I agree...it feels slimy.
Let me start by saying this is obviously ignorance speculating....but is this the beginning of the end of the NCAA?
If this becomes widespread, what is the future of regulation or accountability? Is the NCAA a voluntary organization? Does a school need membership to play others?
Is the ability of the NCAA to regulate limited by this type of structure?

As long as the School doesn't take NCAA or Federal money …….. but the NCAA will go at them. Hope they have some really gifted lawyers. Also If a court case or two results, FSU will be spending lots of money. It's just a bad situation when schools may not be quite honest and when the NCAA is going beyond their charter.....

As we've seen over the past few decades, overreach by NCAA is a chronic problem. We 'll see how this plays out....

The federal FOIA law and the state PDA apply to public entities or agencies.

Gonzaga is not and has never been public. So it wouldn't apply to begin with.

Information about Gonzaga could conceivably be obtained from other public agencies with dealings with Gonzaga. But Gonzaga as a private institution is not subject to these laws.

I have been thinking along these lines (rudimentary thinking) for several years....I should have known that I have no original ideas....

I don't see a downside..... the less hypocrisy in college sports the better....it will be interesting to see where this goes...
