    Default Detroit Mercy's Antoine Davis

(From an article listing some NCAA records which could fall in the 2019-2020 season)

    Single-season 3-point shots
    Challenger: Antoine Davis (Detroit Mercy)

    Leader: Stephen Curry (Davidson) — 162 3PM

Antoine Davis set the Division I freshman record by making 132 3’s last season, surpassing a mark previously set by Stephen Curry in 2007. Next, Davis could be a candidate to break another of Curry’s records: the single-season 3-point record.

Curry buried 162 triples as a sophomore, a record that’s stood since 2008. He was a trend-setter, a trailblazer when it came to knocking down shots from the perimeter. At Davidson, he lived beyond the arc. Now Davis has established residency behind the 3-point line at Detroit Mercy.

Adding: My thanks to ZagDawg for starting this thread and to the contributors for adding items as the season moves along.

Kind of weird timing-- but I guess whatever works.

Creighton's Greg McDermott has hired San Diego's Terrence Rencher as an assistant coach, per release.

As an assistant at San Diego--In his first year at University of San Diego, Rencher assisted the team in earning a 20-win 2017-2018 season, inclusive of a quarterfinals appearance in the CollegeInsider.com (CIT) Post-Season Tournament. In his second year, Rencher assisted first-time head coach Sam Scholl in improving the team to a 21-win 2018-2019 season, which included a semi-finals finish in the West Coast ConferenceTournament, as well as a National Invitational Tournament (NIT) appearance, the program's first in school history.

Wonder what's up with that? Sam seems to be a terrific guy down at USD.

Jazz, what's the word down there?

Edit: upon further research, it seems another USD Asst. left 19 days before the 1st practice to take an Asst. job at Hawaii (and I believe the Hawaii Coach, a former SMC Asst. has taken a LOA {for health reasons}). Can anyone fill in any of these blanks?

Does this mean we get to refer our wins on the Gaels home court as the "Beatdown at the Bank"-- similiar to the old UW games?

St. Mary’s loses starter Matthias Tass for season due to a torn ACL.

Best wishes for a full recovery

Thanks for the sentiment. Gaels are without a legitimate 5 for the season. Not great.

They’ll play small and fast. SMC for all their faults can push the limits they are given and will make due the best with what they have

They do have 7'3" grad transfer Aaron Menzies from Seattle U. Bit of a step down from Tass, but Menzies fills the role well enough for them to only need minor adjustments to their scheme.

Their roster also lists 7'1 C Jock Perry. I think they'll be fine.

That is an excellent question...maybe the team isn't playing as a TEAM or the coach can't find a way for the players to find a motivational factor.

So finding Coach Few and the Staff's success for the last 21 seasons is truly amazing and he has had less than two handfuls of players that left early.

Easy, Green is ruled ineligible and McDaniels has zero buy-in. Mcdaniels a likely top 5 pick and he's now coming off the bench and hardly playing because he just does his own thing. I feel bad for Stewart cause he is a freaking stud and continues to work hard, but he can't do it alone.

Looks like I will have to change my ways.
For years sometimes in the threads about our games with SMC I would add a few sentences to comment on how much it hurt St. Mary's to have a weak schedule, and compare randy to lorenzo.
Now I may have to see if randy is still doing the blow by at the game's end.

Quade was arguably the second or third best PG in the Pac-12. Losing him tanked their season.

    • Losing Quade to academic issues was pretty shocking and huge miss by the staff. That said, it isn't the only reason they have tanked.
    • Their defense is poor and the players don't execute the 'cuse zone scheme effectively despite having the length and athleticism to pull it off
    • Stewart is a great player-future NBA star I expect
    • Jaden McD is a knucklehead-5 T's and counting. 2 of their recent losses turned against them after he did something stupid. Watson owned him when they were competitors in HS. You can tell he is making Hop crazy.
    • But beyond all of the above, they simply don't play well-poor passing, hero ball, taking bad shots. Hard team to watch.
    • I thought highly of coach Hop when they hired him now I can't decide whether to feel sorry for him or that he isn't the coach everybody thought he was.

We are very lucky to have the staff we have who can find players and coach them up. This year's team is greater than the sum of its parts as a result

stewart is a great college player but doesn't look like a future star...nba bench role player...he's not athletic enough and undersized for the 5 and not a good enough shooter or ballhandler for the 4.
