Sad news. He was the role model I tried to emulate in ancient times when I was playing in school.

"Hondo" is John Havlicek, not the guboards Hondo.

Thank you ZN. I thought Jazz was talking about our Hondo. I'm glad he's still with us. Regarding John Havlicek of the Boston Celtics, he definitely had a tremendous influence on my game. His hustle is what I always wanted to emulate. I did like his jump shot as well. He was money!!! And I wanted to be like that. The other Boston player who influenced me a lot was Bob Cousy.

              1. Hondo was a rare player but never won a MVP.
              2. I nearly hit the roof here as I was just shopping with our Hondo at Costco!! OMG!!!

Phew, thanks for the clarification. Brief moment of panic.

Hondo was a favorite of mine as well. Thanks for the memories.
                    But we don't play nobody.

Everyone remembers him for this (which is by the way easily the most famous PBP call in NBA history):

But few remember he scored more than 26,000 points in 16 seasons (before the 3-pt line).

Added entertainment from the guy at 0:18 in the above video who took off with the ball knowing it would be worth a fortune.

Even more entertaining (and they literally ripped his jersey off):

My first basketball as a kid was a signed one by Hondo. "Don't cross your legs on defense," my dad said.

Edit: F*** Parkinson's. Took my dad and Havilecek too.

Great comment. As a Green fan, it's a pity they never played a minute together. The original and the best. IMO, a top 10 all-timer.
