Baseball's Jacob Named WCC Pitcher of the Week

RHP threw 8.0 scoreless to beat Pepperdine

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Gonzaga right-hander Alek Jacob earned the Rawlings West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week honor for his strong effort in a win over Pepperdine this past weekend.

Jacob entered the game in relief with no outs in the second inning, and proceeded to pitch the next 8.0 innings scoreless and keep Gonzaga within striking distance to pull out a late 3-2 win on the road at Pepperdine on Sunday. Jacob's day was masterful as he allowed just two hits and struck out six while walking just two batters in the win. In the outing, held opposing hitters to just a .091 batting average. Gonzaga won the game with a two-out, two-run single in the ninth inning.

The honor is the first of the season for the Zags for either a position player or pitcher.

GU returns to Spokane for its home opener against Washington on Tuesday, March 26, at Patterson Baseball Complex and Washington Trust Field at 6 p.m. on SWX locally. Links to live scoring are available at GoZags.com.
