I'm sure that's it...really hard to recruit kids to a school if it's widely known that the HC is entering his final year.

Cal would seem like a job that Bennett would have to take a long hard look at. Same area, wouldn't have to move, probably double his income (minimum), and is used to recruiting kids with academic standards.

Someone like that, been a part of the school for a generation, leaving after one more year anyway? And I guy who had taken them to darn near the top, obviously doesn't "forget" how to coach, just struggling lately.

. Not befitting a great university.
My sentiments exactly. Martelli is a legendary coach with so many years of loyal service to SJU, and he surely could have jumped to a higher profile program had he wanted to.

What coach would want to work for an administration that would do that to a guy who literally gave his professional career to that school? Not only a slimy move, stupid too. I hope alumns like Jameer Nelson are vocal in support of their coach and disappointment in their school.

They mentioned that on the CBS Sports basketball wrap up show tonight. . . he had a good run as a coach and now he moves on to the next gig. Guy has a face for radio, maybe he lands a gig calling games for Westwood One.

So does Steve Lappas and Seth Greenberg and Dan Dakich. Martelli has a big personality, he will wind up on TV I think.

EACTLY, WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND! I remember that well...coach was just being an arse and I lost all respect for him as a "coach"...

The AD said the players deserved more then they were getting from Martelli...he had one great year '04...

Dakich has a voice for silent movies. I find him hard to listen to.

Sort of unfair to fire Dunleavy after he lost two players to the NBA last year. Granted his woefully unathletic group couldn't get motivated by Dunleavy he did a great job at getting guys into the NBA.

As long as he can maintain "plausible deniability" he is a prospect.

That would be a head scratcher. What can UCLA do for him that Kentucky can't?

I thought Tony Bennett was rumored to be the top candidate (although I'm not sure how well his style would sell in La La Land).

Smith USD caught up in academic scandal

"Since the U.S. Department of Justice announced their investigation last week, the University of San Diego been subject to a confidentiality order that restricted our ability to identify the former coach referred to by the government," the University of San Diego said in a statement. "Earlier today, the government informed us that the order has been modified and USD can now disclose the identity of the coach involved as former men's head basketball coach Lamont Smith, who left USD in March 2018."
Prosecutors allege real estate developer Robert Flaxman wired $250,000 to the Key Worldwide Foundation, the purported charity operated by the scheme's ringleader, Rick Singer, in order for his son to gain admission to USD as a basketball recruit.

I deleted mine...but it was based on the 'cheated on his wife and school, should run for political office'.

    Why no complaints there?

I actually posted this info yesterday afternoon. One of the mods moved it to another forum almost immediately. No biggy.

As I stated there, hope Sam School & his kids don't become roadkill because of this.
