Default OT: Your predictions for WCC Post-Season Awards

It's a tradition unlike any other. . .The WCC continues to irritate the hell out CDC84 (and others) by having a ten player "first team" in it's post-season menu of recognition. . .the results will be announced Tuesday, 3/5.

Who are your predicted winners for All-Conference ? Defensive POY ? POY ? Newcomer of the Year ? COY ? All Frosh Team ?

    Here's a link to the Conference Stats : https://wccsports.com/documents/2018...tats_11_11.pdf

A thread discussing last year's awards is here: http://guboards.spokesmanreview.com/...496-WCC-Awards

    My Predictions:

COY: Few ( I won't be shocked if Dunlap or Smith win this )
    POY: Hachimura
    DPOY: Clarke
    NEWCOMER: Clarke

    FIRST TEAM - ALL WCC

    Perkins
    Clarke
    Hachimura
    Childs - BYU
    Pineiro - USD
    Ford - SMC
    Fitts - SMC
    Batemon - LMU
    Gallinat - PAC
    Ferrari - USF

    SECOND TEAM

    Norvell, Jr
    Haws - BYU
    Ross - PEP
    Carter III - USD
    Eaddy - SCU

    ALL FROSH

    Wertz, SCU
    Edwards PEP
    Justice, SCU
    Douglas, LMU
    Baxter, BYU

    And you ?

Like to see Kyle as COY, but team has slumped.

Can’t see how ZN doesn’t make 1st team.

Why not 4 on first team? Bump Gallinat.

I don't think it likely to have 4 Zags out of 10 slots on the first team, jazz. . .no bias vs. Zach. . .just my handicapper's hunch based on many years of watching the WCC go the extra mile to include more schools in the post-season awards circle. . .

I agree with Jazz, but also with you that 4 is unlikely.

I would remove Haws, not because of his ability, I just don't like to look at him. The Gollum nickname seems appropriate.
Hoping you have a sense of humor too!

We live in an era of participation trophies.

Final four MVP is the biggest prize of all.

I’m with Jazz in this one... Norvell is a first team lock. While it sounds crazy to
Have 4 out of 10 first team selections go to players off of one team... it is also crazy
For a team to win a conference title by FIVE GAMES.

4 on the first team this year would be no surprise, based on the way the guys boat raced the entire conference. Rui as POY and BC as DPOY are no-brainers. Few as COY should be a lock but that is one place the conference can spread the love.

Also, I look at it this way......are there any guys on other teams who would start for the ZAGS. Piniero at USD is the only one who comes to mind for me.

Clarke and Rui should share POY
    Clarke DPOY
    Clarke Newcomer of the year.
It’s the only way it should be.

Yep...it’s too bad. Clarke should sweep all 3 of the big awards (Share WCC POY with Rui)

NO WAY Fitts is 1st team. Swap him and Norvell. Norvell is an absolute 1st Team player.

I like this with Perkins and Norvell with those two on the first team. Leaving Norvell off wouldn’t be right

The '98-'99 team had Eaton, Hall, Santangelo & Frahm on the 1st team & Soph. Calvary was Hon. Mention.

A # of times have had 3 guys on 1st team.
We didn't want the guy anyway.

Well then there's hope the Zags can get 4 on the first team then. . .thanks for the research, sitting. I assumed 4 players from one squad would be unprecedented (and unlikely)

I think that if your team goes undefeated in conference play you should win COY without much debate.

Zags have 4 best players in the league. Period. There are, however, any number of candidates for the 5th spot. And yes piniero would be a wonderful addition.

Absolutely. The only other person that was even in the conversation was Kyle Smtih, but after USF had a chance to close out with the second seed and lost 3 straight games to close the season, including 2 at home, to some of the more mediocre teams in the WCC, that chance is toast.

And even though a poster on the SMC board mentions Bennett was without 2 important pieces all year due to injury, he seems to agree with you.
We didn't want the guy anyway.

I think Ross from Pepperdine should be a first team guard ahead of Gallinat , Bateman, or Ferrari.

Averaged 19 pts (2nd among guards) and 7 assists (tops in WCC). i know Pepperdine is a bottom feeder, but Ross has really stood out.

The top one is Norvell, Jr., the lower one is Gallinat. . .I'm a Zags fan, I would put Norvell, Jr., ahead of Roberto if I had a vote. . .

We'll find out Tuesday if 4 of GU's starting 5 make All Conference first team.

Colbey Ross, for comparison. More points, more assists, WAY more turnovers, fewer rebounds, weak SOS.
