I've always liked Andy Katz. The man has a lot of guts as he ranks Duke #5 (which is, by the way, where I would put them).

As far as GU's record goes, the best thing might be UW now appearing in the top 25. We no longer have a losing record against ranked teams.

#1 in Rivals.com Team Recruiting Rankings for 2019 with the addition of Oumar Ballo

    https://n.rivals.com/team_rankings/2...ams/basketball

Along with a mini-write up about Ballo and Gonzaga's 2019 recruits:

    4. ADDITION OF OUMAR BALLO GIVES GONZAGA TOP RANKED CLASS

    POSITION
    OUMAR
    BALLO
    RANK
    N/A
    6'10" | 240 LBS | C
    NBA ACADEMY LATIN AMERICA
    MALI,
    CLASS OF 2019
    VERBAL COMMIT
There's a new No. 1 in the 2019 team recruiting rankings and it's not a usual suspect. By landing five-star big man Oumar Ballo during an official visit over the weekend, Mark Few and Gonzaga now have the best class in the country.

Obviously, the Zags have proven themselves as one of the nation's top programs and this class is a pretty big statement with Ballo in the fold.

Ballo is a hulking and powerful center from Mali who won't turn 17 until July, is a true back to the basket big man who cleans the glass and plays with power around the rim. He built his reputation thanks to strong play in FIBA competition and most recently he was in the States for Basketball Without Borders.

The Zags have always feasted on International recruiting and the increased ability to scout those prospects prior to their arrival on college campuses has helped to give the Zags credit for finding players earlier than in years past.

In addition to Ballo, the Zags have landed four-star wing Martynas Arlauskas from Lithuania to go with three Rivals150 members Drew Timme (five-star), Pavel Zakharov (four-star) and Anton Watson (four-star). Their class is rounded out by three-star point guard Brock Ravet.

Mind blower on this one... someone had Zags ranked 9th???? Wonder if it is the same one that had Kentucky at 18th.

And on a neutral floor and true road game. The talking heads tend to forget how much of an advantage it is to play at home. When is the last time Dook or Kentucky played a true road game in the OOC against a good (ranked) team. Lots of pre-season tourney games at neutral courts, sure, but how many OOC true road games.

    Not many, if any.....................

I know, I know, the tough conference schedule, but still. Also, I know, I know GU has to travel in the OOC to make up for the weaker conference, but still.

At least UNC is coming to the Kennel next year, and MSU came a number of years ago. It's a start...........

Finally, big shout out to Coach Hopkins at UW, got the Fuskies heading in the right direction, plus great recruiting class coming next year on Montlake. Should be a great game next year at Hec-Ed.

    Go ZAGS

Whew.... that makes more sense. Can't see a college coach (although we know it is usually some lackey) putting the current UK team at 18... even with biases included.

Speaking of the AP poll, is this the first time we’ve been ranked #1 on two separate occasions? Meaning we climbed to the top, lost it, and then reclaimed our rightful position.

So do they roll out the #1 cake on campus every time we hit #1 in the polls, or is a once a year type deal?

Yes, BUT! “On Paper,” but many teams with lots of losses (up to 9 since 2000) and many teams barely ranked in the top 10 or even top 15 have won it all. Sweet 16 and beyond, as many posters have noted, is such a crapshoot.

Who’s Best Last.............is what it’s all about now.

To be clear, for my part I'm not making any arguments or building a case for anything in this thread. I'm just listing Gonzaga's various rankings from a variety of sources.

    Have a blessed day!

Understood and thanks for posting all of them! Great contribution to the board. Apologies if my comments were taken as argumentative. I’m just trying to keep my own expectations under control and grounded in reality. We’re ranked so high by so many different rating systems and polls you could get to feeling, and maybe even thinking, that all that’s left is to cut down the nets in Minneapolis.

It can all end in a heartbeat as you know, and there’s a looooooong way to go.

All that said, I like our chances, my biggest worry being teams with less talented but big, bruising, bigs, both starters and off the bench. If we’re on our game and if both Tillie and Petrol can make quality contributions, the Final Four and beyond sure seems within reach.
