Team first yeah. What a great video for a great player. I think what John had and others didn't was "an inner focus". Where he was not concerned with what others thought but on doing his max in the right way whether physical or mental. By the way, David got some of lthose genes also. On a personal level my dad told us boys "If you ever start a fight I will whip you, If you ever run from a fight I will whip you". Definitely kept us focused on doing the right thing. I don't know if the younger generations understand the value of "tough love". As aparent The balance is the key.

Thanks, CEO, that was fun to watch. I second all the great thread comments about John...................here's mine.

I grew up 2-3 blocks from John's parents house in Spokane. The summer after his rookie year in the NBA there is a knock on our door. It's John, delivering my mom's Avon order on his way to the gym to work out (John's mom was my mom's Avon Lady). Kind of hilarious in retrospect..........an NBA player delivering Avon as a favor to his mom.

Great kid then, great man now.

Love all the comments especially yours TacomaZAG.

I was a year ahead of John at GU and he was just a typical quiet gym rat that blended in.

The one thing that doesn’t get mentioned often is John never had sports agent. Pulled up in mini van and signed his deal and went home.

The other story I liked was his buddy called him when the news broke on ESPN that he just announced his retirement....

his buddy asks “just heard what’s going on”.....John goes into what happening at his kids baseball game that he’s at....

“there’s two out Jay’s on second and we’re down by 2” so not into himself.
