Default Mark Few calls out NCAA over scandal

    https://sports.yahoo.com/gonzaga-coa...011257540.html

There’s two teams today who were competing who do it right. I know that to be true,” Few said. “And there’s a lot of teams who do it right – the national champions two out of the last three years. There’s a lot of great things. This thing is worth saving.”

Considering Villanova won two of the last three national titles, it’s pretty clear he was indirectly calling out 2017 champion North Carolina. The team North Carolina beat in the championship game? Sure enough, it was Gonzaga, and that game was also in the Phoenix area.

Well we'll be coming out of finals week, and.... well...... let's just say that the tar heels should be fresh.

10 days off to be exact.

Could work against them, at least for a half.

UNC has some ballers, their bigs are elite and can shoot.

Their 6th man is a Top 5 pick on nearly every Mock Draft.

Their defense is nowhere near as good as Tennessee.

Doubt we can stop UNC, esp when they are firing on all cylinders at home, but I doubt they can stop us.

Hurts Norvell appears to be at 75%, but these 5 days off could help.

A really good match up between two Top 10 type teams.

We will be hungry, I think even more fire than we showed today.

Have a feeling the guys realize how much this game means for post season aspirations.

That is surprising, because Roy Williams and Mark Few are close buddies. Roy once told Few that is he ever considered another job, that he should call him first. Meaning, don't be an idiot and leave Gonzaga.

Seems to me it was taken out of context somewhat.

He wasn't calling out UNC, rather commending Villanova, as he has done in countless interviews over the past few seasons.

    This seems presumptive and leading

I have also never understood the LEVEL of which the UNC basketball program was involved in their scandal. That it pretty much had to do with the football team.

I have also heard over the years that Roy Williams is one of the hardest working recruiters in the business. That no blue blood coach comes close to working harder on the recruiting trail. Unlike General Calipari who just orders players to report to Lexington immediately.

We can, of course, gloss over 20+ years of academic cheating because UNC self reported and then claimed that the NCAA has no jurisdiction over academic scandals, which of course ignores the detail that the players that cheated were not eligible to play UNDER THE NCAA RULES WHICH UNC AGREED TO ABIDE BY!

As courageous as Few was, Colangelo was nauseatingly tone deaf during his endless interview/hagiography. US Basketball Inc. CEO dropped names and minimized scandals.

+1 Absolutely spot on! When I first heard that Colangelo's name was part of the official tourney name (the Jerry Colangelo Classic), I wondered if he had passed away and was being memorialized with this basketball classic. Boy, was I mistaken! He's alive and well and can't stop talking about himself. It was quite a distraction to people actually trying to watch what was one of the best (if not THE best) matchups so far in this young season.

BTW Jazz, thx for dropping a new word (for me at least): hagiography +2

Me, too. Colangelo and his buddy Al Bianchi are about as arrogant a pair as imaginable. They are fixtures at the track here. Of course, Jerry's son is a piece of work as well.....

Seems clear to me that he called out both Emmert and North Carolina....I don't see how you could parse it any differently...

The last two programs that Emmert was associated with, Washington & LSU, were also two programs who have been linked to the NCAA/FBI investigation.

He better be if he wants to get any player with a modicum of self-worth to go play for that tainted program.

That 6th man you are talking about is one of the ones that Arizona is in trouble over, but he goes to north Carolina and everything is fine. This is the kind of stuff coach Few is talking about. However the ncaa will never do anything to north carolina or duke, which moved the Willianson's into a million dollar home in durham.
