Default GU vs. Washington Pre-Game Media

Seattle Times: Rivalry? Not when Gonzaga has won 11 of the past 12 games against Washington

“The game was hyped up a lot,” Brockman said. “Everyone was very excited. The place was packed. And the atmosphere was crazy. But the thing I remember most was Adam Morrison. He was, the man.”
Washington (6-2) returns to Spokane to face No. 1 Gonzaga (8-0) at McCarthey Athletic Center where they haven’t won since 1944. In their last trip, UW lost 98-71 in 2016.
Jones, an Compton, Calif. native, calls the UW-GU series “the Apple Cup of basketball.” But considering the recent results, he doesn’t believes it’s a rivalry anymore.

“I don’t see it as a rivalry, I see domination,” Jones said. “But it can’t stay like this forever so I guess that’s the silver lining.

“They’re a great program and kudos to them. I’m not going to let my so-called hatred for Gonzaga deny me from speaking the truth. But times have changed. We have a different coach in Mike Hopkins and different set of players with a new system. Maybe it’s time for a change in results and it’ll become a real rivalry.”

Funny what you remember. 2016 UW v ZAGS. Perkins 60 foot pass to a streaking Karnowski for the slam. Fine finish, tremendous pass!

It'll be interesting to see if this bunch of purples pooches has any legs. Zags can run. If Udub doesn't keep up it's gonna be a drubbing.

The Huskies next game is a big one: A road match-up with No. 1 Gonzaga.

“(Gonzaga is) fun to watch, as a basketball fan,” Hopkins said. “They attack. They’re aggressive. We’re going to have to have our A-game.”

Hockey broke out in Seattle today. Almost like Zags are playing Seattle U considering media interest.

Not much in the way of a Husky forum unless I can't find it...but...

Evidently they weren't taught how to express their thoughts very well with the number of expletives in such a short thread, but some credit given to GU.

They'll lose in the second round like usual.
Their 'usual' now is Sweet 16. Haven't lost in the 2nd round since 2014. They are where Romar should have been the last decade.
If Hopkins ever had half the success Few has had he would be the greatest UW Basketball coach of all time.

    From the SR this evening:

Gonzaga-Washington key matchup: Noah Dickerson formidable challenge for Zags’ frontcourt

They also do a Podcast called, The Press Box where various writers discuss the Zags.

One half the success of Few would make Hopkins the best Husky coach?

One third would be more than enough.

That would equate to going to the tournament every year, and one out of three years making it 2-3 games in. Heck, that'd equate to an E-8 once in his tenure, and he'd still be not a third of the way there.

    Of course "Conference of Champions"

Man, when that's all they have to hold on to ....

Sure, there've been some years with a good Pac showing and good advancement, they had Oregon in the FF (when the WCC had the Zags).

I suppose there won't be a year where they only have one team in, and just about every year the middle of the Pac will be above the middle of the WCC, but this might not be one of those years.

But when it's all you have ...
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.

Apologies in advance for this off-topic post. Does anybody know if there is some sort of pre-game gathering in Spokane prior to the UW game tomorrow night? I checked the Alumni Association web site and they have very helpful information about a pre-game gathering in San Diego on Thursday, February 22nd, 2018 but otherwise are no help. We don't get to Spokane very often and would like to (hopefully) meet up with other GU fans before the game.

    Go Bulldogs!

A couple of tidbits from Zagger’s link.

According to oddsmakers at BetNow.eu, the Bulldogs are a 15-point favorite on the spread line. As of Wednesday morning, 95 percent of public bets are pouring on visiting(?) Gonzaga.

The Huskies are 1-8 ATS in their last nine games vs. the West Coast Conference.
