    Default OT: Thoughts with Pepperdine

Apparently there were a number of Pepperdine students in the Thousand Oaks bar shooting. https://www.sacbee.com/latest-news/a...221340460.html

This is just soul crushing... my thoughts and prayers to all involved... even though that isn't enough... It just isn't enough.

From this story about local universities affected by the tragedy: https://www.sbsun.com/2018/11/08/loc...ght-promotion/

epperdine University in Malibu — which has confirmed that 16 of its students were at the bar at the time of the shooting — did not cancel classes but left it to students to decide if they wanted to attend.
One Pepperdine student remains unaccounted for, and two students were treated and released from a local hospital, according to a 10:46 a.m. statement.

That student may be Pepperdine freshman Alaina Housley, the niece of former Fox News correspondent Adam Housley and actress Tamera Mowry-Housley.

In a statement released to various media outlets, Mowry-Housley and Adam Housley confirmed that Alaina Housley was killed in the shooting.

“Alaina was an incredible young woman with so much life ahead of her and we are devastated that her life was cut short in this manner,” the statement reads. “We thank everyone for your prayers and ask for privacy at this time.”

    Default Moment of silence

Might be nice to offer a moment of silence before tomw’s game, as a brother school had students involved in the shooting and for the overall tragedy of the event.

As I was delivering lunches to the elderly today I drove by a couple schools. It was a beautiful sunny November day in E. Washington. The kids were out in force enjoying all sorts of after lunch actives.

Knowing already about the horrific destruction of life in SoCal I sort of cringed. Any mentally ill person whose meds may be a little questionable could simply take a left turn and easily create twice the destruction.

Don’t worry. I’m not going to petition that you or any of your friends should have to walk or scooter to work. I will sleep easier knowing I have a sister who chooses to arm herself in case she has to protect herself or her kids

Thousand Oaks is considered one of the safest cities in SoCal. It could happen anywhere.
    Is it November yet?

safest places tend to be the most vulnerable.

i read where the MAC has new safety procedures this year. does that include metal detectors? anybody confirm?

    found it

The school encourages fans to arrive early Saturday and on game nights this season, because the new procedures will slow the entry process. There will be express lanes designated for patrons not carrying bags or larger metal items. The clear bags — maximum size 12 inches x 6 x 12 — allow staff to quickly check the bag's contents.
"It's a national trend," said Rob Kavon, associate athleticdirector for facilities and event operations. "Most large venues that hold larger sporting events have instituted the clear bag policy and metal detectors. The overall goal is to keep everybody safe and have that comfort level of knowing everyone that comes in has gone through metal detectors."

Dissent, insight and contextual discussion makes a website 'sticky' and engaging - not just predictable, safe position fanboyism. Monoculture is uninteresting and lacks intellectual depth.

This is just mind numbing. It is horrible that people here in America have think about protecting ourselves from ourselves when we go out for simple night out. Are we are going back to the Dark Ages?
