INDIANAPOLIS -- Gonzaga Athletics had 11 of its 15 APR-eligible teams earn NCAA Public Recognition Awards, giving GU the third-highest percentage in the nation at 73 percent, NCAA officials announced Wednesday.

Based on their most recent multiyear Academic Progress Rate, teams posting APR scores in the top 10 percent of their sport earn NCAA Public Recognition Awards. The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams nationally. The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2013-2014, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 academic years.

For Gonzaga, 11 of its 15 teams (indoor and outdoor track are combined), were publicly recognized for this high achievement. Of the 306 schools that placed a team on the top APR list, Gonzaga's 73.3 percent was the second-highest rate of any school in the nation, behind only Villanova's 82 percent and Holy Cross at 79 percent.
Individually, Gonzaga's women's golf team is one of just 85 teams nationally that has earned Public Recognition Awards in each of 13 years of the Public Recognition program. In addition to women's golf, Gonzaga's baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's cross country, women's cross country, men's golf, men's soccer, women's tennis, men's track and women's track.

The Gonzaga men's basketball team was the only Final Four team to earn public recognition. Of all the teams in the NCAA basketball tournament, the GU men were in a group of 13 out of 68 in the field to earn the award, while the GU women were in a group of 15 out of 64.

Gonzaga also led the West Coast Conference with its nine teams in sports sponsored by the WCC honored, followed by Santa Clara's seven and Pepperdine's five. No other WCC school had more than three. Gonzaga's men's basketball, women's basketball and baseball programs were the only WCC teams in their respective sports to earn NCAA APR Public Recognition.
