Baseballís Legumina Named to Stopper of the Year Watch List

Casey Legumina has 10 saves out as the GU closer

SPOKANE, Wash. ó Gonzaga baseball closer Casey Legumina was named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association announced on Thursday.

Legumina is currently ranked 10th in the NCAA and first in the West Coast Conference with 10 saves on the year. The sophomore right-hander has a 2-2 record with a 2.32 ERA in 18 appearances out of the bullpen on the season.


Heís been the back-end part of four combined shutouts this season and has held down the closer role as part of a solid bullpen that has combined for a total of 13 saves and nine victories.

GUís pitching staff ranks in the top 40 in the nation in shutouts, ERA, WHIP, walks allowed and strikeout-to-walk ratio. Legumina has been a huge part of those rankings with 34 strikeouts and just four walks in 31.0 innings on the year.

Gonzaga will be back in action on Friday at 6 p.m. in the first game of a three-game home series against Loyola Marymount.
