For Gonzaga, the WCC tournament title is nice, but the program is past the point where its success will be measured on what takes place before the Big Dance.

"It's not easy when everyone is telling them that," Few said. "Quite frankly, whether they turn on the TV and see that, or people book tickets down here for the Monday and Tuesday games. These guys do a masterful job throughout the whole year dealing with expectations.

"There's great expectations put on this program, and there is even more put on the program after what these guys accomplished last year going to the national championship."

    Loved this quote.

Since the tournament moved to the desert a decade ago, Gonzaga is 23-2 -- a winning percentage (0.92) that somehow surpasses its mark in Spokane (0.903), where it has the nation's fifth-best home winning percentage in that span.

    Couldn’t find the Press Conference.

Check out "Posts" on the left margin. It also looks like the press conference is shared from the WCC

Great find for the post-game presser. Dave Rose looked shellshocked. Couldn't even muster a case for his team to be considered for an at large NCAA berth. Few OTOH was really happy that the team put it all together for the 40-8 run. JW3 refused to comment on how he guarded Childs "so he wouldn't give away secrets".

Vince Grippi's TV Take feature in the S-R:

    http://www.spokesman.com/stories/201...n-crew-a/#/044

The Sinatra of the group, as it’s been in all three Las Vegas games, was sophomore Killian Tillie, whose MVP performance included 22 points (on a poor – for him – 9-of-13 shooting night, including 3 of 4 from beyond the arc) and six rebounds.

And a nearly continuous shout out from Vitale.

“I didn’t know they made shooters like that in France,” Vitale said at one point.

“That’s amazing,” the analyst raved after another Tillie 3-pointer. “Every time he shoots the ball, I think it’s a layup.”

Tillie did miss one 3-pointer, but we’ll blame it on Joe Lunardi.
To let you behind the curtain, it’s not unusual for subjects of columns and stories to have thoughts about how they were presented in the newspaper. But being busy, and also hesitant to talk with someone who would be the subject of another column, I let it pass.

Then Vitale called. And I answered.

He had some things to say. One word I used bothered him. He was right. It was a bad choice. He doesn’t have a shtick, he has his personality. It’s who he is and who he’s been in a broadcast career that stretches back to the beginnings of ESPN.

He also felt awful he had made a mistake about Rui Hachimura, one I had pointed out and one he corrected Tuesday night.

Nice quote here I saw somewhere: "Killian, who is French, was asked to describe Gonzaga's performance in one word in his native language.

"Ensemble," he said. "It means together, as a group. We were all sharing the ball, it was great."

From the Spokesman-Review, "Gonzaga-BYU: 3 keys to the Bulldogs’ 74-54 victory"

    Offensive player of the game

Make it a clean sweep of this category for Killian Tillie in the three tournament games. The sophomore forward had 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting. He finally missed a 3-pointer after 11 straight makes in the tournament, but still hit 3 of 4 from distance. the Bulldogs’ 74-54 victory"
    Defensive player of the game

Johnathan Williams did an outstanding job on BYU star forward Yoeli Childs, who had 18 points in the first half, but just two in the second. Williams showed off his athleticism by helping on ball-screen coverage and recovering to guard Childs. Williams blocked two shots. Childs finished 7 of 16 from the field.

"Gonzaga (30-4) put the game away with a 36-4 run in front of an pro-Zags crowd of 8,030 at Orleans Arena, leading by as many as 32 points in the second half before coach Mark Few took his foot off the gas."

    from the Salt Lake Tribune
    https://www.sltrib.com/sports/byu-co...ournament-bid/

also "BYU’s 74-54 loss in Tuesday night’s championship game of the West Coast Conference tournament at Orleans Arena became a case of the Cougars’ advancing too far for their own good."

Here's an article from the Desert News that hasn't yet been posted. The kind of verbiage we fans appreciate -

I felt the jab at USF was unnecessary. They've done more with less than BYU has.

Honestly, I can't muster up much of any sympathy for the WCC. I can't fake respect.

I thought Fews quote about fans only coming for the semis and finald was interesting. Arent they only selling those as a package now, and forcing you to buy the quarters seperatley?
