A couple of interesting tidbits on Saturday's game.

    - BYU is undefeated in conference play at home this year.
    - The Lady Zags are surprisingly shooting a better overall percentage and scoring more points than BYU.
    - Cassie Broadhead Devashrayee has her flopping down to a science as she is 2nd in the nation in FT attempts and 4th in FTs made.
    - 6'7" Freshman center, Sara Hamson, is second in the nation in blocked shots per game and 3rd in blocked shots.
    - As a team BYU ranks 8th nationally in blocked shots and 9th in blocked shots per game.

Looks like points in the paint maybe be a little more difficult this week. May need to pull young Ms. Hamson out of the key.

We have our targets. Let's go get some Puddy Tat.

    Go Zags,

      - The Zags held a team below 50 points for the fifth time this season and fourth time in six games.

      NOW IT GETS FUN:

      - The Zags have started WCC play with a 11-0 record just four times prior in their history, most recently in 2014-15. In three of those cases the Zags went undefeated in conference play at 14-0, prior to BYU and Pacific joining the West Coast Conference.
      - The Zags started 15-0 in head coach Lisa Fortier’s first season in 2014-15.

      SERIES HISTORY:

      - The Zags lead the back-and-forth all-time series 13-9.
      - GU is 3-5 all-time at BYU. The Zags won the first game they played there in 1994, 75-67, as part of the Holiday Classic.
      - Gonzaga last won there on February 28, 2015, 73-66. Elle Tinkle scored 20 points in that game and the Zags matched the most league wins in West Coast Conference history with the regular season finale victory with 16. Last season, BYU won 63-71, as BYU had a 15-0 fourth-quarter run and Zykera Rice scored 13 off the bench with six rebounds
      - Gonzaga head coach Lisa Fortier is 4-3 against the Cougars winning both regular-season meetings in 2015, and the home games in 2016 and 2017. 17th-year BYU head coach Jeff Judkins is 7-12 against Gonzaga.
      - GU’s last win against BYU was at home last season, as the Zags shot 68 percent from three, making 17 of their 25 attempts, school records in percentage and made threes. Those marks also set new highs inside the McCarthey Athletic Center, for either the Zag men or women. Emma Stach led the Zags going five-of-seven from deep for 17 points, a career high. She added seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals
      - Gonzaga’s win streak of four from 2013-14 is the longest in the series, as BYU has never won more than two-straight games.
      - Gonzaga leads 8-4 all-time in West Coast Conference regular-season meetings, which began when BYU joined the conference in 2011-12.

      SCOUTING THE COUGARS:

      - The Cougars started the WCC season 6-1, but have lost two of their last four. BYU completed a season sweep over Saint Mary’s.
      - Nationally, the Cougar team ranks eighth in blocked shots per game at 6.4.
      - Last year’s WCC Player of the Year Cassie Devashrayee averages 20.2 points per game to lead the Cougars and the West Coast Conference. She logs heavy minutes at 38.6 per game and played all 40 in Thursday’s 62-52 win over Loyola Marymount.
      - Breanna Chase, 13.6 per game, and Malia Nawahine, 10 per game, join her in double figures.
      - Six-foot-seven freshman Sara Hamson leads on the glass at 6.8 boards per game and has blocked 80 shots, second in the nation.
      - BYU played three Pac-12 teams and one team from the SEC in its nonconference schedule, going 1-3 in those games.
      - The Cougars shoot 68 percent from the field, but have a negative -1.4 rebounding margin and negative -.5 turnover margin. They do average four more blocks per game than their opponent.
      - BYU has won 23-straight home WCC games, with Gonzaga’s 2015 win being their last loss to a WCC team in the Marriott Center.

      BACK-LOADED SCHEDULE:

      - The Zags have a back-loaded WCC schedule with five of their last eight games in conference coming against San Diego, BYU, and Saint Mary’s. The Zags have never played five games against those opponents in a single month.
      - The Zags were 5-1 in those games last year, just dropping the game at BYU. They also went 5-1 in 2014-15, losing at San Diego, and 2012-13, losing at Saint Mary’s, the best marks since BYU joined the conference in 2011.
      - In the remaining games, home and away against BYU, and at home against Saint Mary’s and USD, GU is 31-10 since 2011.

      THE SECOND, AND THE THIRD:

      - Gonzaga has outscored their opponent by 118 points in the second quarter this year, and 62 in the third quarter.
      - The Bulldogs have an average lead of 12.14 points when entering the fourth quarter...

Apparently, TheW.tv will not be steaming online the Gonzaga - BYU game on Saturday. The game will be streamed online through the BYUTV.org though plus the tv broadcast on BYU TV.

CLF can OWN THE PAINT, simply by speeding the game up......you have 4 bigs who can run the floor.....guards who can facilitate the uptempo game.....their 7' ft'er will have her tongue hanging out by half! 3/4 trap defense ... and BYU won't know what hit them. They simply cannot keep up with your over-all speed and tough defense! Pacific made it look easy when BYU was in Stockton @ Spanos! Win number 12 for the taking....... go zag's!

Like your train of thought Kemo. Getting their key players in foul trouble and harassing them on defense always works for me, and we have the depth to run them into the ground. Last game there top scorer Devashrayee played the whole game 40 minutes, and usually plays the nearly the whole game averages around 38 minutes. Wear them down. Get a lot of charging fouls hope Laura Stockton has been tutoring the Wirth sisters on this.

This a really good 3 point range shooting team Broadhead, Nawahine, Chase, and Johnson all shoot above 30%. Going to have to stay on them from 3 point range to win.

Get #20 Devashrayee out of the game or limit her points would also contribute to a win. She was the player of the year in WCC WBB. She gunning for it again this year averaging 20 points a game. We need this win we will very likely play then two more times.

Zags up 38-26 at half time. JL screwed up big time 1st half fouled Devashrayee on 3 point shot and then fouled her again JL played horrible 1st half. ZR 0-5 made 2 free throws did not look good. LS made a couple of stupid turnovers but made a couple of nice plays also. ES made two 3 pointers early, wrestled giant on the floor for jump ball. ES looks good early then looked sloppy 2nd quarter stupid fouls on their best free throw shooter. We need to stop having fouls on Devashrayee.

Only Zag looking good 1st half Jill Barta 19 point 10 rebounds last count. Only termed full court press once and it worked. Not playing a lot of pressure on defense so far. We played very slow in 2nd quarter.

                    Good first half.

Barta playing exceptional. A double-double at halftime.

Defense giving up some wide-open shots due to sagging in the key. BYU helping out by missing many of the wide open shots only shooting 31% overall and 22% from 3-pt. Don't expect that to continue, need to tighten-up the defense some in the second half.

Offensively, we need to get Rice, Smith and Loera going to reduce the load on Barta. Also need to reduce the number of turnovers in the 2nd half.

                    Let's finish this Zags.

ZAGS choking 21 point lead down to 8 points not playing aggressive and BYU pressure successful. Lead went down from 21 to 8 points in fourth quarter in a 4 minute time frame. Zags decided to sit on their lead in 4th quarter hate that conservative approach. Its like prevent defense in football how many time have we not seen that cost teams the game.

As always under CLF, we try to run the clock out and we quit running our offense.

Just play the game, quit trying to play safe. The prevent defense prevents teams from winning.

Oh, and start hitting your free throws.
