Being a 7 seed does not make sense to me.
We are ranked 14th, and ranked 7th in pomerey.

I can see the frustration, but run the table from here till tourney time, and they'll be a high seed.

    Maybe Joe reads Withers.

“...on the wrong day in March, could be the first in a decade at Gonzaga to lose a first-round NCAA game. That three-point defense is statistically poorer than any in the 19-year streak of NCAA appearances.”

Joe is a RPI guy so it's not really surprising

    St Mary's also a 7 seed.

    Wow.

    Because they beat....us?

We have wins over Creighton, Ohio St, Texas.

They have wins over Gonzaga...and BYU.

    Don't get this.

North Carolina with three really bad losses still seeded higher makes no sense other than the glamour of the name

Joe is an RPI guy because the NCAA relies heavily on RPI. Remember Lunardi's bracket isn't what he thinks personally, he's trying to emulate the selection committee.

Joe rarely tracks with the Committee's choices. Honestly maybe some one of these important scribes actually tunes in and watches how this team plays/doesn't play defense. Could be.......

I've always liked Joe Lunardi, and always looked forward to Bracketology every week. Not so this year at all. He has Ohio St. as a three seed, and we beat them convincingly. He also has Creighton seeded higher. GU has no bad losses, and honestly only one loss by more than 3 points. I hope this inspires Gonzaga. It has inspired me, and pumped me up for the Zags in a way that I have not been pumped up this year. In many ways there's not a lot of things better in life than proving people wrong. And in many ways, that's the Zags Story. Welcome back to Zagland.

This is what I've been warning you guys about. Our margin of error is getting thin. We must find a way to win ... that's the bottom line..... and win a bunch.

Now! The good thing is that Washington is now a RPI top 50 team.

LASTLY AND THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT....

I don't think anyone knows how this will play out. The new quadrants system of evaluating tournament teams is going to be a surprise to everyone come selection Sunday. And for the next few years nobody really knows what will happen.... so take it with a grain of salt.

You’re talking about the guy that generally picks the field correctly every year?

The problem with the Zags RPI is that they don't get that boost from playing Gonzaga.
Hoping you have a sense of humor too!

    Just seeing that myself.

Looks like Abe got 5 minutes for high sticking (drawing blood), a misconduct and a game misconduct.

normally a valid point...not this year. gonzaga gets more of a boost playing smc compared to the other way around. just a bad schedule for zags this year from an rpi standpoint, though this week could provide a small boost (if zags win =).

The old formula relied on quality wins. GU played multiple high caliber teams, along with some really bad teams in between. This doesn’t produce a great rpi value. SMC doesn’t get challenged ooc, but they don’t play the 300 rpi teams, so much as the 150 rpi teams, producing a better raw value on a couple occasions, but fewer quality wins.

All that to say, we will see whether the new quadrant style formula plays into all this.
